Has anyone tried using an Apple Pro USB keyboard on their old world machine? I have an extra one, and thought I would use it on my 8600/500 with 10.2.3. it seems to work OK, but it constantly logs messages in /var/log/system.log, and I can hear the hard drive trying to do something over and over again. here is the text of the log: Dec 30 23:04:41 ARComputer mach_kernel: USBF: 21172.809 AppleUSBProKbd[0x2200400]::HandleSpecialButtons - HIDGetButtons failed (0xffffc98e) I see this over and over again... Obviously it is trying to do something with the "HIDGetButtons" function. Any suggestions what I may need to resolve this? Any suggestions for a replacement for the "power key" that is no longer on these keyboards? |

I tried the direct-connection and it didn't help. I ended up moving the AppleUSBProKeyboard.kext extension and rebooting, and it seems to be working fine now. The "Speaker Volume" keys don't do anything on the screen now, but they didn't actually change the volume before anyway... |

Yes, mine is plugged directly into the card but I don't recall any problems when going through a powered hub. Maybe plugging in direct will solve your problem. |

I also have a Kensington Expert Mouse track ball that has been working for quite some time. I do have the keyboard plugged into a hub in my monitor. Nick: Is yours plugged directly into your USB card? |

I have used an Apple Pro USB keyboard on my 8600 for over a year with all versions of OS X up to 10.2.3 and haven't noticed the system log messages that you are getting. Have you any other USB input devices that might be causing an interaction e.g. multi-button mice, joysticks etc? You can't power on from the USB keyboard but if you hit ctrl-eject you'll get the shutdown dialog just like with an ADB keyboard power button. Unfortunately the eject key doesn't work to eject removable media. |
