OK, Sports Fans, I want to know how you are using your Olde World Macs to get your old video tapes onto VCD, SVCD and/or DVD. I have an 8600 with a G4/450 card, FW and the old legacy analog video built-in ports (7600/8600). It's time to make this baby pay for itself. What s/w and/or h/w are you using? Got any good web sites to share? I've found vcdhelp.com. --Dwight |

Turns out that, recently, dealmac.com had found the Canopus ADVC-100 for $249. I still haven't bought one yet, but my youngest graduates from college this Saturday, so my wallet will slowly be recovering. Thanks for the tip on vcdhelp.com. Although I already knew about it, I forgot to mention it here. They have a Macintosh forum. That's were I learned about the synching of video & sound problem on digiting movies longer than 20 minutes. Good site. --Dwight |

Its called INTERVIEW at either here www.otherworldcomputing.com, or the official site www.xlr8.com |

Turns out that either a Canopus ADVC-100 or Formac Studio DV for around $285.00 (approximately street price each) get the best press. Choices...sigh! --Dwight |

Thank you for the review. Very interesting. Dazzle's Hollywood Bridge seemed to be interesting choice. Then I got to spelunking around through forums here & there. In these forums I learned that the Dazzle HB has a problem with video & audio synching for long video conversions. I discovered a company called Canopus that has two possible hardware sol'ns: - ADVC-50 - ADVC-1394 These two products have good reviews in these forums and are compatible with iMovie, iDVD and Final Cut Pro. So, anybody know anything about or are/have used Canopus products? --Dwight |

There is no OS X driver for the analog video built-in ports (yet). XClaimVR cards from ATI don't have OS X video-in drivers either. You'll have to stick with OS 9 or get a FireWire DV converter, USB video in converter, or a third party analog video-in card with OS X drivers. http://www.macworld.com/2001/08/reviews/converters.html The bus speed in old macs might be too slow to do the job well. I haven't tried it myself. |
