Hi folks, I'm attempting to do a clean install of 10.2.1 (educator version) on a newly reformatted 4 gig partition on a Umax S900. The machine has been running 10.1.5 on a different HD with no major problems for several months now, but my webserver software upgrade requires 10.2. The video card is an iX3D Ultimate Rez (from OWC, of course) which solved some problems in the 10.1.5 install. I've tried XPF 2.2.4 and 2.2.5b7, and with both of them, I get the following shortly after the machine boots to X: Can't find superclass for 19CurioSCSIController : 24ioSCSIParallelController map_and_patch():Extenseion "com.macsales.iokit.appleCurio4K78" Error binding OSObjects. loac_kmod: map_and_patch() failed for kmod "com.macsales.iokit.AppleCurio4k78". load_kernel_extension():load_kmod() failed for kmod "com.macsales.iokit.AppleCurio4k78". IOCatalogue: com.macsales.iokit.AppleCurio4K78 cannot be loaded. It stays right there as long as I'm willing to leave it. Any idea what this is about? I didn't see any posts along these lines in the forum. What to do about it? As I write this I'm installing 10.2 on that drive using a different machine (a Beige G3 350mhz). I'll then try booting via XPF on the S900 again. Any problems anticipated there? |

Add me to the count of people with this problem. I'll have to check my SCSI termination... I'm using both the internal SCSI bus and an external SCSI tower with a bunch o' stuff in it. After the IO fail to load messages that have already been posted to this thread I get (and this is from memory as I'm writing this from work)something to the effect of /dev/ .. .password not a valid destination/folder/etc.. this appears for each of my 4 HDs and then I get dumped to a ssh# prompt. Any ideas? I'm going to check the termination tonight, but it just doesn't seem to be recognizing the drives?! I've already pulled my non-apple CD-ROMs, my extra memory and my 2 PCI cards... and nothing has changed the error and secure shell promt. |

Hmm. Those are definitely errors related to the internal SCSI bus. In your case, it isn't the CD-ROM as such--it is either an issue related to termination, or the SCSI cable, or something of that kind. |

If you have either available, try running DiskWarrior or NU 6 under OS 9 to repair your OS X partition. That works for me. I get hang ups at different spots in verbose mode. After I repair it, it boots fine. |

When I installed on the Beige, I went ahead and upgraded to 10.2.3. Could that be part of the problem? Tonight I moved the HD with the 10.2.3 installation on to another Umax S900 that successfully runs 10.1.5. Attempting to boot into 10.2.3 via XPF 2.2.5b7 resulted in: automatic reboot in progress mounting local filesystems /dev/disk1s7 on / (local) mach.sym configuring kernel extensions jettisoning kernel linker. Then it stops dead in its tracks. |

Also on a UMAX S900. Only running 9.1 currently, Have one drive, 4GB at SCSI 0, ready for OS X. Second drive has OS 9.1 partition and a Classic partition as suggested. 480 MB RAM. I have a digital photo of the screen if wanted, just e-mail me. I get the same thing, as first message in thread, happening to me. Here's how it reads after Copyright disclaimer: using 1228 buffer headers and 1228 cluster IO buffer headers sixt6: not registry member at registryService() Can't find superclass for 19CurioSCSIController : 24IOSCSIParallelController map_and_patch():Extension "com.macsales.iokit.appleCurio4K78" Error binding OSObjects. loac_kmod: map_and_patch() failed for kmod "com.macsales.iokit.AppleCurio4k78". load_kernel_extension():load_kmod() failed for kmod "com.macsales.iokit.AppleCurio4k78". IOCatalogue: com.macsales.iokit.AppleCurio4K78 cannot be loaded. Tried adjusting throttle but error message does not seem to indicate to me that would be the problem. Please help. |

Ok, the install of 10.2 using the beige was successful... on the beige. When I moved the drive over to the S900 and replaced the video card with a known working Ultimate Rez (from my S900 running 10.1.5), I got the following error: From path: "scsi-int/@2:7, mach_kernal". Waiting on IOPathMatch IODeviceTree:/bandit/gc/mesh/@2:7 ADB present: c MESH: 200 f ProcessMSGI - unsupported message: rejected. getDependencyListForKmod(): Dependency com.apple.kernal of oldworld.support.patch hedIOSCSICDDrive is not compatible or is unavailable. load_kernel_extension(): Can't get dependencies for kernel extension "oldworld.support.patchedIOSCSICDDrive". IOCatalogue: oldworld.support.patchedIOSCSICDDrive cannot be loaded. MESH: 0 0 waitForMesh - MESH chip does not respond to command. MESH: FFFF0000 e00002c9 DoMessageInPhase - Target hung: message in timeout. MESH: 0 e00002c9 doInterruptStageCmdO - msgIn during CMD phase. MESH: 0 e00002c9 doInterruptStageCmdO - msgIn during CMD phase. MESH: 0 0 doHardwareInterrupt - MESH interrupt problem: phasemismatch interrupt. Still waiting for root device. --- Ok, so the troubleshooting guide says that means there's something about the CD that's not working right. Fine, I pulled the CD (which was terminating the scsi chain), put termination on the drive, and tried again. Now it stops at: IOCatalogue: oldworld.support.patchedIOSCSICDDrive cannot be loaded. and says nothing else. (unless I didn't wait long enough, though I waited a fair while). Next clue or debug instruction? |

Those error messages are normal--that particular kernel extension only loads in Mac OS X 10.0. So those error messages are not what is causing things to grind to a halt. What are the last messages before those? Booting on the S900 after installing elsewhere can work (depending on what the original problem actually is). |
