Setup: PM7500 G3/366 (CarrierZif), XPF 2.2.5 booting 10.2.3 found on internal SCSI; Firewire/USB1.1 from Sonnet Tango, APS CD-RW Firewire/USB. I can't get OS X to see Firewire drive. USB from same card works fine with the CD-RW plugged in as USB. Firewire works fine when I boot 9.1 from another drive. I have tried an OWC Firewire CD-RW - can't see it either. ASP reports the existance of IO Firewire extentions but I do not know how many there should be and if any are missing. No data nor music disks come up on the desktop and Toast 5.2Lt reports No CD burner found. Any help is appreciated, Ed |

Yes, I had that happen to me once, doing a soft restart I suddenly found I couldn't read my external FW disk. Had a minor heart attack thinking the drive had failed (no it wasn't properly backed up). Then discovered that FW interface was dead. Booted into OS9 - FW still dead. Powered off to check card seating and on restart all was ok. Hasn't happened again. |

My FireWire is now working. I found it wasn't working any more in 9.1 so I killed the power, unplugged the cable, plugged it back in, turned it back on. Worked again in 9.1. Booted back into 10.2.3 and there it was. Disks come up on the desktop, Toast sees it, and ASP's FireWire Information says FireWire(C1). I am pleased to say it can write CD-R at 48X which is twice as fast as anything I got with 9.1. I do not know why it did not work for so many days but now it does. Perhaps it simply needed to be switched off and back on. Ed |

I have another CD-R from OWC - it is Firewire only (also a Lite-on) - it does not show up either. ASP is not clear to me: by elimination I see the card is in slot C1 but not much info is given that I can understand. Here is what it says for C1. Type = Not availabel, Model = Not available, Device ID = 22530, Revision = 16; Type = Not availabel, Model = Not available, Device ID = 22545, Revision = 4; Card Type = pci, Card Name = pci-bridge, Card Model = Not available, Vendor ID = 1668, Device ID = 100; ROM# = Not available, Revision = 11. All that was in one big box, then it branches to two little boxes which say first - pci11c1,5802 and second - pci16b8,1. All of this info comes from the section in ASP about PCI cards; the sections on USB and Firewier both report no devices found. That must be because ther is no native USB or Firewire. All of my USB stuff works correctly (trackball, digital camera, and CD-R). Ed |

Have you access to any other firewire devices - hard disk, video camera etc. for testing? There have been other posts on this forum saying 10.2.3 broke the support for various CD-RW drives. Does ASP show the Firewire bus? |

Nick, Thanks, it has already been updated to 1.3. The mech in the APS (LaCie) is a Lite-on LTR-48246S. Firmware SS08/MMC-3. Got any other ideas? Ed |

I have the Sonnet Tango in my 8600 running 10.2.3 and my LaCie FW CD- RW (Teac CD-W216-E mechanism) shows up as normal. You could double check that you have the latest Tango firmware loaded - it's available on the Sonnet site. The current version is 1.3 and you need to install it from OS9. |
