external SCSI CD/RW now works! |

I think everything has suddenly aligned itself nicely - my LaCie/Yamaha CD/RW SCSI external drive is now working under Jaguar! Last night I decided on a whim to once again try installing El Gato's SCSI Helper patch under OS X - it hadn't worked before under previous versions of Jaguar, but I decided to give it another go under 10.2.3 . Turned on the LaCie, slipped a CD-ROM into it and rebooted. Lo and behold, when the desktop came up the CD mounted! The drive's showing up under ASP now, and iTunes, Toast and Disc Burner are all working - and all just as nicely and efficiently as they do under OS9. I'm so happy about this. I think it may be a combo of the latest XPostFacto, 10.2.3 and SCSI Helper that finally did it.... |

True, but that didn't stop some of us from plugging in hard drives and scanners and such after the computer had started. Is it the same thing as hot swapping if an external scsi drive or whatever is already plugged in but is not turned on until after the computer has started? |

Technically SCSI is not hot swappable at all. |

I remember reading somewhere (maybe in this forum?) that SCSI is not as hot swappable in OS X as it was in OS 9. I guess there's no software for OS X like "SCSI Probe" that will scan the SCSI bus and allow a new device to be added and mounted after the system starts up. |

the key: burner on, THEN boot up |

I have an older Panasonic 4X burner, and I have noticed that it is crucial that the burner be turned on when I boot up if it is to ever show up or be useful. I can turn it off after boot up, then back on when I need it, but if it ain't on when booting, nothing will bring it up later. I have not tried the El Gato software, but since I reboot fairly infrequently, the turn-it-on-then-reboot work around works for me. |

Cool! My Yamaha 2100 external SCSI model has worked from day one so it looks like older models are getting added to the "supported" list. |
