Some problems with a 7300/200 w/NewerTech G3 333 |

Hey all, Been trying to install 10.2 from an original retail 10.2 CD with no luck so far, the disc works fine, installed from it on a PowerBook G3 with no problems, but the 7300 seems to have problems with it - the error I get is "The Installer has quit due to an unexpected error. (exit code 0)" I've tried removing and replacing all the DIMMs, interleaved them and then de-interleaved, nothing seems to work. The CD ROM drive in the 7300 is an original Apple 24x SCSI drive. The hard disk is a 9 GB IBM drive, 336 megs of ram in it total (tried with 64, 128 and 256 and everything in between with the 8 DIMMs in it) I borrowed my friend's 10.0 retail CD and it went in smoothly but 10.2 has features which i desperately need to have any use of this machine. The disk is partitioned in two about 4 GB volumes, 9.1 is on the other and the X volume is empty. Any ideas very much appreciated. |

Well, i just got back from trying with a different CD Rom drive, i'm using the slower SCSI bus, otherwise it won't do a d*mn thing, but i still keep running into that same error all the time, never at the same place though. Strange though if it is a disk error where it works perfectly on a G3 Desktop and a G3 PowerBook FireWire. As i noted i've also tried bunch of different RAM modules, nothing seems to work, X.2 simply won't install on this darned machine.. |

Try a different CD Rom drive if possible, or a different install disk... have seen this error on several macs (including officially supported) and it was always a disk error. Ryan also said that it could be caused by bad ram.... Marty |
