I have recently installed an Apple 5x DVD Rom Player(purchased from OWC) on my Mac Beige G3 and find that my Mac will not run the Apple DVD Player 2.7 or 3.1.1. I get error messages telling me that my machine cannot run players. The software I run is OS 9.2.2 and the latest Jaguar OSX 10.2.3. My machine has been upgraded with the ATI Radeon 7000 Mac edition plus the Powerlogic G4 550MHz ZIF as well I have upgraded my hard disc to 80GB. I have not experienced any problems and find it frustrating that I connot read a DVD disc. Could someone help please. |

Have finally found the solution to activate Apple DVD Player 2.7 running on OS 9.2.2. There is a patch and installation instructions to be found on www.os9forever.com/DVDPlayer.html This has allowed me to run my DVD Player (in OS 9.2.2 and Jaguar OSX 10.2.3) as an external firewire drive via my USB/FIREWIRE card. DVD movies are playing very well without any hitches. Hope this information helps as I have found this installation extremely frustrating. |

Thank you to DREIBEL for his great solution. Although I could't activate his suggestions initially, I persisted and got my DVD to work very well in Jaguar OSX 10.2.3. I have also installed Intech CD/DVD Tools 6 but still cannot get DVD Player to work in OS 9.2.2. Could anybody please help in the OS 9.2.2 areana. |

I think I know the problem if you're running Jaguar - 3.1.1 will not work with this, there's a new version of DVD Player. 3.2, that's Jaguar compatible. here's how I got my UMAX J700 (a machine which wouldn't install 3.2 from the OSX 10.2 install disks) to work with 3.2 , an ACARD Ahard ATA/66 card and a Toshiba 16X IDE DVD drive - perhaps some or all the following things I did will work for you: A few days ago I mentioned to a user interested in running a DVD-ROM drive on his UMAX that you could only run it under OS 9 and Intech CD/DVD Tools 6, because it was impossible to get DVD Player under OS X to work. Well, I'm happy to say that I was wrong in my assessment. Thanks to a thread in the XPostFacto support forum on OWC, I found some advice on how to get the DVD Player running under Jaguar on a PCI PowerMac. And I just spent about three hours enjoying the new _Queen Greatest Video Hits Volume 1_ DVD, which due to the codec used in restoring the video will not run on my APEX DVD Player - the J700 played it all back smooth as silk! WARNING! Although it's pretty straightforward without having to call up things like the Terminal, this is something you have to have confidence to do. I put these instructions forward to help you out, but this is something to do at your own risk. I bear no responsibility for anything that happens to your machine in doing this, although your computer isn't likely to blow up. I would recommend to at least do a backup of any and all important files, and maybe make a copy of your OS X boot drive to another drive using Carbon Copy Cloner, before proceeding..... here's how to make DVD Player work on the UMAX J700 and S900 under OS X 10.2.x ! you'll need: - OS X Jaguar install disks - DVD-ROM drive with appropriate interface to connect to (check the xcellerate your mac pages at Other World Computing's web site for a database of drives that will work with OS X and the appropriate interface - I'm using a Toshiba 16X DVD drive along with an ACARD Ahard 66 IDE/PCI interface) - video card with proper DVD decoding features (ATI Rage 128 w/decoding card, Rage Orion, Radeon For Mac, Radeon 7000 ME) - processor card upgrade (minimum 400 MHz G3) - Pacifist .PKG extractor program (can be found at Versiontracker.com) - DVDPlayer 3.2 no DVD Cocoa patch file (found at the French web site macbidouille.com, you may have to utilize BabelFish to find the file) - a DVD movie to test with Procedure: - install all appropriate hardware as per instructions from manufacturer. - insert disk 1 of OS X Jaguar - using Pacifist, go to the path System/Install/Packages and open the .PKG file "Essentials.PKG" - open the "Applications" folder. There you will see the file "DVD Player.app". Click on this file, then hit the "Install" button at the top of the Pacifist window to install DVD Player 3.2 to your Applications folder on your OS X boot drive. - once DVD Player is installed, run the "DVD Player 3.2 no DVD" patch - this removes the check Apple put in to prevent you from running DVD Player on a PowerMac without a built-in IDE bus . - now launch DVD Player - if the patch is successful, you should not have the "cannot find DVD drive" warning box pop up, and the brushed metal DVD interface widget should appear on your desktop. - in the "preferences" selection in the menu, check the box asking to launch DVD Player whenever a DVD is inserted. Close DVD player. - insert your DVD movie into your DVD drive - if the install was a success, DVD Player should now launch and go to the main menu of the movie. - click on the appropriate selection and enjoy your movie! |

You need to patch your DVD player in OS 9 only mode and will have to check the way that you have your IDE cables connected. The DVD usually needs to be on Bus 1 set to master. |
