Recycling CD-RW drive? |

I have a QPS Que! USB CD-RW that is no longer supported under Jaguar. I was curious to see what kind of drive was inside, so I opened it and found a Mitsubishi IDE CD-RW drive. My question is this: is it possible to use the IDE CD-RW drive as an internal CD-RW in my PM7500 with Jaguar if I get an IDE controller card? I guess another way to ask the question is, is the lack of support for the QPS USB drive because of the USB part or the Mitsubishi part? Thanks, Dan |

Well, that is another consideration. I asked the question before looking at prices for IDE controllers. It might be not much more expensive to just get a SCSI CD-RW to replace the CD drive that came with the 7500, and I would have a much faster drive than the Mitsubishi drive that site in the QPS USB enclosure. On the other hand, if I can use one of the cheap ($28) PCI IDE controllers I've seen, I would go for it. If a card says PC-only, does that mean it won't work with MacOS X necessarily? |

How fast is the burner? There are some realy fast firewire burners that come with the Safeburn stuff (i wish my burner had that) and are cheap. I know OWC sells a Yamaha burner for about 130$ and they sell some other nice ones like the OWC mercury burners are nice too but i think they are alot more but i am not sure. |

It is almost certainly the USB interface that is not supported. The drive itself will probably work fine. |

my guess would be USB because it is so slow and lacks the features of firewire so apple does not support it like firewire, just a guess. |
