cannot upgrade to 10.2.3 |

I'm successfully running 10.1.5 on a 6 GB partition on a PM 7500 that has a PLogix G3/500/512, Sonnet ATA/66 attached to a Maxtor 20 GB drive, Ultimate Rez card and a generic USB/FW card. I cloned the system onto another 6 GB partition, and successfully upgraded that to 10.2 (the discs I have require a prior OS X install). However, when I do the software update to 10.2.3, I can no longer boot from the Jaguar partition. All I get is the spinning chronograph (or whatever it is) for hours on end. I've tried zapping the PRAM before reinstalling bootx and extensions from XPostFacto to no avail. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. Ramil |

Verbose mode give the following info. on the last two lines: load_kernel_extension(): can't get dependencies for kernel extension "oldworld.support.PatchedSCSIDeviceType05" IOCatalogue: oldworld.support.PatchedSCSIDeviceType05 cannot be loaded I hope that helps. I have absolutely no clue what that means. Thanks for any help folks can provide. |

Regarding the 8 GB limit, I can actually boot from the same partition if it's 10.1.5 (the clone from my original partitioni) and 10.2 (after the initial upgrade). It's only after I upgrade that I run into problems. On the other hand, I can clone the entire 1st partition and then upgrade that instead of the clone... I'll see if I can give it a try. |

Except that the Sonnet ATA/66 pretends to be a SCSI card, so it should be OK for the 8 GB problem. Do try verbose mode--it will probably give you some clues. |

There is a limit here: ATA drives must have the entire boot volume in the first 8 Gb of a drive, thus your first 6 Gb partition is happy booting, but the cloned partition cannot lie entirely within that first 8 Gb, and thus will not boot. This limitation seems to affect only hard drives on ATA/IDE buses. |

under the advanced menu in XPF there is a verbose mode. select it and restart. verbose mode will five you an error instead of the spinning thing. |
