What are the benefits of installing a Radeon 7000 |

I keep hearing about the Radeon 7000 video card. I have a PowerMac 7500 with a Sonnett G3 500Mz. My monitor is an Applevision 1710 with the built in speakers (they don't work in OSX). Is the built-in video sufficient enough to run OSX or will the Radeon 7000 really improve performance? Will the Radeon 7500 or 8500 work with a PCI powermac like mine or is the 7000 as high as I can go? |

Thanks Itking. I have too many other upgrades to purchase before I can justify a fourth video card. but if I had it to do over again? BTW, is the first letter in your name a lower case L or an upper case i? |

Thanks for the info. I've already ordered one from OWC. I hope it peps up my video in the OSX mode, Thus far with OSX, a Sonnet G3 500MHz processor, 416MB of Ram, a tempo card, a tango card, a 30GB IDE HD, a 36.9GB SCSI Barracuda, the performance of my PowerMac 7500 under OSX is pretty darn good. I'm not saying my built in video is showing any signs of problems, I've just heard from a Tech guy at Sonnet I ought to get the Radeon Card. It's the last thing I'm buying for this machine. This is fun switching over to OSX on a 7500 I bought and have used since 1995. I'll keep this machine until they bring the prices down again. Maybe by next Christmas the 20" digital display will be $699! Regards. |

I wanted the 7000 for a long time. Right after I got it, and before I installed it, I started seeing a lot re: Radeon Mac Edition. A couple of days later I saw one on eBay. Darn. Which one of you guys got it? :-) |

The Radeon 7000 is as high as you can go, unless you can find an original Radeon Mac Edition card for sale. The original Radeon has better 3D performance. Later ATI cards are AGP only and will not work in our PCI slots. The Radeon 7000 will give you a definite boost in performance over built-in video. But if you have no intention of using the system for gaming then a Rage 128 card would be good too. OWC has them for $60. |
