nickis_que, It's just a thought, but you could try this: put the Lite-On drive back onto the IDE controller temporarily, and when you get to the devfs on / dev line and it halts, press the CMD (apple) key once or twice (not a lot - that'll freeze the mac good), and if you're lucky, it'll "kick in" again like it does for me when I boot off the CD using my Pioneer DVD-106S on my Tempo Trio card. It seems that the CMD key somehow wakes the computer up or something from its "stupid" mode, hehe. Try it and see. If it works, cool beans. If not, then you're no worse for the wear, eh? - Chibi Delennâ„¢ |

I got it to boot. Had to take the Lite-On drive off the IDE controller for some reason, I bet that I need to look into a hacked driver for that thing. Thanks for all the help guys I will let you know how it goes. Marc |

Well I have the system patched. last problem to get over, when I boot into OS X I get to BSD root: disk0s6, Major 14, minor 6 devfs on /dev well I have a definition of what Devfs does-- Devfs is an alternative to "real" character and block special devices on your root filesystem. so I do I go about trouble shooting this issue? nickis_que, You need to boot into OS 9 by holding the option key when your computer starts up, then run XPostFacto. Select Reinstall Extensions and Reinstall BootX, select your OS X partition and click XPostFacto's restart button. You don't need to reinstall OS X and you won't need to do Reinstall Extensions and BootX again. |

Well, I have not seen any activity about this topic and thought I would try to push for ideas. Machine PowerWave with G3 upgrade running 350 , 196 megs of ram, ATI rage 128 video card, ACCARD(SIIG), with flashupgrade, ide card with a Lite-On LiteON LTR-52246S and a Maxtor (60 Gig) drive with a 7.9 Gig partition in slot one for OS X. SCSI subsystem is unpugged. it seems to want to see the LiteOn drive with the following error From Path: "PCI1/ACARD,6280M@E/@2:9", Waiting on IOPATHMATCHIODeviceTree:/bandit@F2000000/ACARD,6280M@E/@2:9 I have OSX intalled on partition 1 but it has not been patched by the Xposfacto. There Fore it gets a little lost in the boot process. Is there a way to post patch OS X after you have Installed it on a suppoted machine? Thank you for your answers in advance Marc |

I guess my question are there instuction on patching for old world support after you have OX on the machine? if so where could I locate a copy. With Regards Marc |

well I am still working on this install issue. The Accard (SIIG) card is at the latest firmware and I have installed a LiteON LTR-52246S drive(updated Firmware #6SOC). I still cannot get the thing to install. my current error is From Path: "PCI1/ACARD,6280M@E/@2:9", Waiting on IOPATHMATCHIODeviceTree:/bandit@F2000000/ACARD,6280M@E/@2:9 I believe this is saying that it is having issues finding the Drive. Have control set to Master and it is the only drive on the channel. Any ideas before I return this Drive and get something else? And If I get something Else What is a good drive, was thinging of going back to the Lite-on 42 but I have read about issues with that also. With Regards Marc |

It is stuck trying to read the CD drvie. Is this drive properly terminated? Most CD drives are not terminated because the internal chain usually has a SCSI drive attached after the CD. Have you removed your original SCSI hard drive? OS X is very picky about SCSI termination. |

Well I got it past its last spot, now it sits there saying. Still Waiting on Root Device. Does that mean it is having issues finding the CD rom? Thanks for the help Marc |

Chibi, Thank you very much for your ideas. Because the drive is a apple branded 8x (Matshita) SCSI that I picked up from OWC in order to fix this issue. I am hopping that issues number 2 will fix the issue. As I type this I am coping OS 9.22 over to the 1st 25 gig and try installing X on partition number 1. If this does not work then I will try refortmating and reinstalling. I have everything stored off on a old SCSI drive so that a refomate is easy. With regard and thanks Marc |

Assuming a non-G4 or higher mac, if the SIIG appears as ATA in OS X (I think it does), you have one of two issues: 1) Your internal "scsi" drive at ID #3, partition #9, is your internal CD-ROM, and is incompatible with OS X's startup method (read: essentially gives you the "waiting for root device" error). Usually Apple drives don't do this, but 3rd party ones (especially ToSHITbas) do. 2) Your 25 GB partition is too large. You might want to back up the HD, and make a 7.95 GB partition as the first one for OS X to use. This one is less likely, since I just booted my OS X off a 40 GB HD with only one partition last night (but for some reason can't boot off my 200 GB HD for anything in OS X!) and it works like a charm. The MAC Address of 0.0.0.0 means that the AppleMaceEthernet.kext or the ethernet chip itself timed out, and didn't load properly. Usually a reboot fixes this, as it almost always just happens on the initial reboot after the first installation of OS X. In either case, try disconnecting the CD-ROM first and see if you can boot up into OS X. If you can, you might consider getting a different CD drive, or getting an IDE DVD drive if your card will permit it. Good luck! - Chibi Delennâ„¢ |
