OS 10.2 seemed to install ok using XPostFacto. When I tried to boot up I got the apple screen with lots of vertical white lines. Rebooting in verbose mode I got the following: Kernel version: Darwin Kernel Version 6.0 Sat Jul 27 13:18:52 PDT 2002; root:xnu/xnu-344.obj~1/RELEASE_PPC No debugger configured – dumping debug information MSR=00001030 Latest stack backtrace for cpu 0: Backtrace: 0x0008593C 0x00085F00 0x00028B8C 0x002314A8 0x00213A38 0x00213834 0x002 14184 0x002147E0 0x00204C60 0x00204C24 Proceeding back via exception chain: Exception state (sv=0x01011500) PC=0x00000000; MSR=0x0000d030; DAR=0x00000000; DSISR= 0x00000000; LR=0x00000000; R1=0x00000000; XCP=0x00000000 (Unknown) Kernel version: Darwin Kernel Version 6.0 Sat Jul 27 13:18:52 PDT 2002; root:xnu/xnu-344.obj~1/RELEASE_PPC panic: We are hanging here… Any suggestions?? surprise, surprise I made past the first reboot, now I can't remember what the last thing I did was// But for those of you looking for help, this is what I think happened, I have a 7500,Sonnetg4-800,10.2,ACARD 133 IDe card (6280m) MAxtor80gb, using 1st partition30gb. I was getting the message above ending with something like can't find AAPL:7500 and something about APPLEPowerSurge. Well I tried several times with several utilities to reformat the Drive on the ACARD PCI bus, the last time it worked. And I believe the last thing I tried was reinitializing with Drive Setup in OS9 (which I tried several times). It appears as I said in another post that the hard drive drivers need to be reinstalled before the 1st reboot after the Disk1 install. I had the same problem with an external SCSI hard disk and both osX and X.1 Ryan I have not heard you address specifically the reinstall of hard drive drivers. Is XPF suppose to take care of this or is it a big coincidence that I ahve had the same probelm with 2 completely different drives?? Anyway looks good now and I thank Ryan a lot for the ability to see OSX on this old 7500. I have a couple newer macs but it is much more fun to "cheat the junkyard" and keep this "legacy" mac going. below is what I am getting too. PM 7500, ACARD 133 ide card, 80gb MAxtor, 30gb part.1, I have tried reformatting with os9 disk setup, also tried FWB Hard disk toolkit but this would not even check the disk just sat there, also tried adding drivers to the HD with B'sCrew HD software. I believe it is a problem with the drive being seen after running the 10.2 install CD1, on the first reboot for some reason the HD can not be seen. I had this problem before and reinstalled the HD drivers, this was with an external SCSI where 10.2.4 is stil OK. I am now reinstalling after flashing the BIOS of the ACARD with the latest for OS9. We'll see............... Trying to install OSX on an 8600 with Powerlogix G3/400 installed. Using XPF, it quit four times. The fifth time I erased and partitioned the 120GB hard drive with 15GB for X, 60GB for 9.1 and the rest for Classic. With the freshly erased HD, I got into the install about an hour when the screen went from the blue install screen to where it wiped down the monitor to stall at a one inch high blue line and then froze. Now I have nothing on my 120 drive and it doesn't seem to want to install. Was told by a friend to remove all PCI cards such as USB, FireWire and such and to unplug my SCSI devices so that X has less to hang up on. Should I start over from the beginning with XPF and X? Or is there some way to save all that time? Thanks for any help you can give. |

Boot back to OS9, run XPF, select the reinstall extensions and the reinstall bootx options. then reselect your 10.2 startup drive and try that... Marty PS if you told XPF to erase the drive and install then it doesn't have the proper extensions to boot OSX until you do the above.... |
