All firewire HD problems |

I have been having some problems with my firewire hard drive, It will occasionally not mount and when that happens drive set up will not work but turning the drive off then on almost always works but if it does not then a restart will work. It will also, right after a cold boot, shut off (this is a very rare occurrence), turning the switch off then on fixes this. Then every once and a while every app running off or using it will crash and then this leads to a hard reboot. Those are the problems and TTP3 sees nothing wrong with the drive, so it is either a power supply problem or software or maybe just reformatting it will help but i don't know the i want to do that, but will if i have to. I think some other people have been having some problems with firewire HDs so maybe it has to do with software *says a prayer* and has nothing to do with our drives. so if you have a problem or suggestion post it here and maybe we can come up with a solution or find the source of the problem. Thanks, Jim |

here is the problem with that for me. The Umax J700 has 2 PCI busses, one is an Apple bus and one is somethingelse and from the 2 cards I have (Radeon and Firewire/usb) nither card will work in the other bus. The Apple bus has 2 slots, The Radeon must be in the slot that it is in now. (i forget which one) This is some situaltion... Ryan, have you been able to look at anything FW2 yet? will it be able to boot? when the cards come out i may just get one and a new case and hope it works in the other bus. (that would be good because i have QE on) Thanks |

I found that my firewire card and USB card were very picky about which slot they occupied. For instance with FW in slot C1 and USB in slot D2, I had hard freeze problems with my FW hard drive and USB devices. Swap them around and life is good. Go figure. I could not get combo cards to work properly with my OWC FW drive so I went with singles. Try different slot positions before you give up. In my case the USB card had to be ahead of the FW card but slotE2 would not work properly with either. Final solution (PM9600/800): Slot A1 - Acard U160 scsi card Slot B1 - ATI Radeon 7000 video card Slot C1 - OWC 3-port FW card Slot D2 - Startech 2-port USB card Slot E2 - Asante etherfast 10/100 card Slot F2 - unoccupied (inaccessable) Everything seems quite stable now. |

I just got a firewire card from OWC so I could set up my IPOD. At first I had problems with th ecard but I moved the card to a different bus and everything has been really smooth since then. I jope that helps a little. Also to let folks know that the ipod works well with the legacy's running OSX and ITunes 3.01. Good Luck. |

I bought one of the OWC little (2.5") FW enclosures and it is sketchy for sure... Works great on my old world macs, but will not show on slot loading imacs? Strange. Marty |
