When I do get through the start up sequence using XPF, all I get is the black screen. I can reboot to my 9.2.2 drive with the option-key down. It took many tries using XPF to get past "Copying mach_kernel,the system would freeze.Once it froze at "Copying Extentions.mkext" Again, when it did take off and reboot it won't light up the monitor. I am using a 9600, XLR8 SSE G4/450,Adaptec 29160N,36.7GB Ultrastar (formatted with SilverLiningPro,Drivers V6.4.5) with 3 partitions 5GB 9.1,10GB 9.2.2, 20GB for Jaguar(I hope). 1536MB (12x128MB 5V DIMM 60NS 4K FPM non-EDO) of RAM (Mac Solutions). Aditional Mac Ethernet 10/100 card, USB 2.0 & IEEE 1394 ComboCard, ACARD 6280M (Nothing attached.Possible CD/DVD Burner)but System Profiler shows it as SCSI. I also have an ATI 7000 that I will install when I get every thing up an running. |

Hi Jim: Based on my experiences with a Sonnet Tech Tempo Trio and an Adaptec 2930U SCSI card, you will probably need to remove the Adaptec Card. Again, based on my experience thus far, the 2930U (and maybe your29160N likewise) is incompatible with the Sonnet card. Egonzales is right on regarding the use of Apple formatting software and the need to remove ALL unessential PCI cards. Install OS X using the native motherboard monitor connection as well. Cheers, Lonnie |

I updated the PowerDomain 29160N driver form 1.1 to 1.2. Now I get to the big Gray Apple then lots of information, concluding with: SAM Multimedia: Read and Write Failed ASC=OX39 ASCQ=0X00 DISK IsOs9:I/O error. Over and Over till I reboot. |

Sounds like you may need to get rid of a lot more until after the install. Unfortunately start with the way your drive is formatted. It is well documented elsewhere, that Xpostfacto works best with either Apples's Drive Setup or Intech's software. I have used SilverliningPro in past but switched for convenience sake. I would remove any PCI card that is not essential to the install: ethernet, USB/firewire, and IDE. It may be a problem installing to the hard drive attached to the 29160N. When booting with verbose mode on do you get a message that the drive attached to the 29160N can't be opened. If so then one may need to use the internal SCSI chain initially to get this to work. Also the ATI 7000 is not a problem. You can leave this in to begin with. Just be sure to select it as the output device in the open firmware menu. Memory can also be an issue. See lots of other posts about memory issues. |
