10.24 is out PROBLEMS??? |

10.2.4 Appeared in Software updates just then, so I did it... Installed ok, rebooted ok. The DVD player seemed badly broken, which was freakin' me out. Turning the display settings back to millions seems to have fixed this, and I must say the video quality looks MARKEDLY better (ie no interlace tearing). Also QE was disabled by the update. Anyhow so far so good... Marty PS The Audio is NOT fixed. |

I have no problems with my external SCSI, perhaps due to still having El Gato's SCSI helper (http://www.elgato.com/freeStuff/cdrwHelper.html) still installed from a while back. You might give it a shot and see if it cures the 10.2.4 external scsi blues. |

D'oh! I said: But now it looks like 10.2.4 has stopped my external SCSI bus working. I've got a CD burner and a Zip drive hanging off there and they both work fine in 9, and used to in X. But not any more. All it needed was a re-install of the extensions courtesy of XPostfacto. :) |

Hmmm - I've been genuinely surprised that OS X has continued to work acceptably on this 7600 with an XLR8 G3/300 2mb cache (the cache makes the big difference). But now it looks like 10.2.4 has stopped my external SCSI bus working. I've got a CD burner and a Zip drive hanging off there and they both work fine in 9, and used to in X. But not any more. Any clues as to what I should be looking for or where I should be poking about with my virtual screwdriver? |

I have had great sucess with 10.2.4 on my POWERWAVE G3 400. All programs work, no freezes. The only thing that does not work and has not worked in 10.... is my Yahama 4416s scsi CDRW if this worked I would have no complaints at all. |

I had done the 10.2.4 update on my 7500 + XLR8 466MHz G3 with no problems and flawless operation. Due to occasional iTunes playback dropouts, I decided it was time to add a bit more horsepower to the mix and opted for the 700 MHz Sonnet G4 card as the best bang for the buck. Needless to say, I had difficulties getting the card to work and fell back to the XLR8 cpu. That was when I discovered I was unable to boot back into OS X from that cpu as well. The console messages during verbose bootup indicated that the class hierarchy of the SCSI driver may have changed under 10.2.4, as it is very persistent in not being able to find the superclass for 19CurioSCSIController, and as a result, not being able to load either com.macsales.iokit.AppleCurio4K78 or oldworld.support.PatchedIOSCSICDDRIVE. I had not seen this earlier (maybe) due to a combination of rarely booting back into OS 9 and possibly some working code found in the kext cache. |

With my ATI Rage Orion video card removed 10.2.4 boots flawlessly on my G4/400 powered 8600. When I reinstall the card I get the same kernel panic with vertical white lines that krevnik reported in another thread. But if XPF is in Verbose Mode 10.2.4 has no problem starting up with the card installed. Throttling XPF doesn't help. Everything worked fine with 10.2.3. Anyone have some idea what's going on? |

Installed on my 8600/G3/400/200/1M and it works like a charm. Can't say I've seen the speedup everyone else is reporting, but, then, work bought me a new alBook 12", so it always looks ridiculously slow in comparison. It's now doing all my routing and has recently become a web server, though, so it is being kept useful. Now, the alBook with a fresh install of 10.2 then 10.2.4 update, has been unstable. Odd... |

No problems with 10.2.4 on Sonnet G4/800 in 7500 for me, unless I try to capture video thru the firewire port (not specifically a 10.2.4 issue), which sometimes still stalls and corrupts my hard disk. Could be an iMovie 3 problem or a Sony TRV10 compatibility problem. Importing video has always been problematic for me on this old machine, especially after 10.2. Rest: ATTO U2LD, WD and IBM LVD SCSI drives, Radeon PCI, RAM 384MB noninterleaved. |

Hmm, it also seems to be rooted in cache configurations... what are those having problems using, and what are those not having problems using? What software and what things are enabled/disabled? I use the Powerlogix Cache Control X for my joeCard G4/400, write-thru off, speculative access on, and power management on. |

10.2.4 runs great on both of my Oldworld systems no panics or crashes... Powewave G4/420 (PL), Powertowerpro G3/500 (Metabox). I would not be too surprised if your sonnet card is whacked. I bought one and had to return it. Although clearly there are many people successfully using the Sonnet card, I still am suspicious about it.. Marty |

I installed the 10.2.4 upgrade on top of my Sonnet G4/800 Jaguar 10.2 system and it didn't make it through the process, killing the 10.2 system. I started fresh with a clean install of 10.2, then applied the 10.2.4 upgrade with success (I had to use the Sonnet installer since I haven't had success with XPF). After installing all my programs, I started getting constant freezes and damage to the HD. It made my OS9 system look really stable in comparison! Looks like it time to go back to 10.2 or try 10.2.3.....10.2.4 is way too buggy on my old world set-up. Marshall |

I am having my own fun... which seems to be rooted in my rather obscure G4 card. It has a fun lockup as if the CPU or the bus is running too fast, yet my throttle is at 8, when I keep it at 3 after installing 10.2.3 Really bizar |

Problems? Yes. Well, at least for me... I ran the installer and upon restart the loginwindow would not start. Checked the logs; it keeps crashing. I can't figure out why so I'm going to just reinstall & reconfigure... Glad that's not the case for you guys... |

I have to admit and am happy to say that DVD playback through my Toshiba CD-RW/DVD drive is much better, back to the smoothness of the original 10.2 release. It's simply a better drive than my Pioneer DVR-104 for DVD playback, even over Firewire. |

I noticed that DVD menus played better too. Scrolling in Safari is faster as well. I didn't get around to testing my LOTR DVD again, which is packed with menu animations but I will tonight. That one is the real benchmark for me as far as DVD playback goes. |

Wow, i read this before i got the update and figured you guys had stopwatches on how fast the windows open and how fast it starts, but you were noticing a .1 sec decrease in the time but now that i have it i am just blown away... there is one problem (well problem is an overstatment) in verbose mode the text does not scroll, you can see it changing the rows doing down the screen, just a little quark. IT IS FAST, they are getting close to the GUI speed of OS9. by the way i really need XpostFacto 3, to do this installation i had to delete 53MB from my start up disk!(that was not a problem because i have always just copied what i install on it to my firewire drive) |

dreibel, What kind of Yamaha drive do you have? I have a CRW8424S which officially isn't "Mac compatible" (that just means I can't boot from it), and it has always worked, or at least since 10.1.2 or so. |

seems snappier in the windows. scrolling is somewhat smoother too. OTOH, the fix with my external Yamaha CD/RW drive and SCSIHelper has broken AGAIN under 10.2.4. And reinstalling SCSIHelper doesn't work now..... |

Excellent update as far as I can tell after 2 hours of play: Finder Windows resize smoother - faster. Scrolling in latest Safari/IE faster- still not as fast as 9.1x though. All ATI extensions updated-all Rage, Radeon, also GeForce. Playing DVDs-video improved, audio stutters less with my DVR-105 internal. Restart faster. Still has permissions issues though-not sure why since Apple acknowledged the glitches in a Tech doc saying that they could be ignored. Still no audio input. I suspect this is an XPostFacto omission for most Old World Macs. |
