First timer installing X onto beige G3 /40MB ATA with Newer G4/400 ZIF. a)Reinitialised with three partitions using 9.1 disk setup b) Installed 9.1 onto one partition c) Ran XPF, but it booted back into 9.1 d) Verbose logging says 'Can't open' 30 times and then OS9.1 boots BootX is definately where it should be, I have since loaded Powerlogix cache extensions and set 1MB cache to 3:1 to no avail. Any ideas or should I remove two PCI cards (Orangelink USB1/Firewire & ATI Rage 128 , both unused) or some of the memory? All info gratefully received Anthony Charnley |

End of panic: After posting this I read a thread some way down the list that suggested I try installing straight off the intstallation disk without Xpostfacto. So I did this and apart from the message that I needed to repartition the drive so that OSX is within the first 8GB (which I also did- due to the ATA drive you dolt) the installation ran smoothly. About this computer correctly identifies the G4/400 and simply states that the level 2 cache is 'OK' (will try tweaking this) CONCLUSION: If you have a Beige G3 with a processor upgrade try a straight installation of Jaguar first. |
