A case of Classic confusion - help me sort it |

Pleased to say I am at last up and running with Jaguar, and have been downloading OSX 10.2.4 for the past hour & a half! So I am pondering the Classic issue- and need some advice I set up three partitions. One for OSX (the first 8GB of a 40GB ATA drive), one for Classic (which I thought would be installed by Jaguar) and a third one as recommended on the Xpostfacto help sheet for the temporary installation of 9.1 (the only system disk I had) in case I had problems. Now I see that Jaguar hasn't installed Classic, it just looks around for the best version of OS9 it can find. In the meantime I have a backup of my whole 9.2 disk (20GB) sitting on my powerbook. Before I go and restore the whole thing onto the drive, what are the drawbacks to using my old setup as Classic? Or should I be looking to have a 'virgin' 9.2 in its own partition as Classic? If so does it make a difference which partition I place the OS9 apps in? All info gratefully received. I would dearly like to get this sucker right first time! |

Jaguar doesn't install classic. 9.2 is a seperate install. Unless you install 9.2 using the OS9 forever utility you won't be able to boot from 9.2 tho you will be able to use it in Classic mode through Jag. 9.1 can work as Classic tho 9.2 is suppossed to be better and faster (I don't use 9 enough anymore to tell the difference) I have both the standard 9.1.whatever and the patched 9.X (using the OS 9 forever utility) If you use your old setup as your Classic OS, OSX will make some changes to it to make it function better as Classic, but those changes don't seem to change how it functions when you boot directly into 9. Hope that helps |
