i'm trying to install 10.2 on my 7300/300 xlr8. 10.1.4 installed just fine using the original processor. i'm a bit confused as to the approach to install 10.2. if i boot from os 9.1, run xpostfacto 2.2.5, select the 10.2 cd as the boot media, select my 4gb scsi internal (w/10.1.5) as the target, reboot, i get to the installer screen in 10.2 and get the message "missing or old bill of materials" and the process stops there. any ideas anyone? 800mb RAM, 9.1 and 9.2 on separate partitions on a 2gb internal scsi, firewirestuff usb/firewire pci card, 200gb western digital in a firewire enclosure... |

ahhhh, success!! the sweet smell...it turned out to be bad media! a somewhat scratched jaguar disk killed any chances i had of installing os 10.2. i borrowed another (virgin) copy and voila!, it is installing as i sit here! thanks for your help and suggestions, marty! -Bob K. |

I have seen this error on a "supported" Apple computer before (imac) with an original Apple Install CD, and it was a BAD CD (or at least no good for that iMac). Marty |

more info: as xpostfacto runs and spits text on the screen, I see the usual messages that we see when installing 10.1.x. then I see "SAM Multimedia: READ or WRITE failed, ASC = 0x11, ASCQ = 0x05" 5 times, then disk1sOs9: I/O error, then the "SAM" error 5 times again, the the "disk1" error, then another "SAM" error, I can hear the CD spinning, then it waits for a few minutes, then goes into the 10.2 installer and I see "The package "OSInstall" cannot be opened. Missing or old Bill of Materials." I've tried reformatting the drive with the OS9 Disk Setup utility. That allows me to get to the OS 10.2 installer. From there, I can get to the 10.2 Disk Utility, so I tried reformatting using that utility. After reformatting, I must force a reboot (3-finger salute) into OS 9, but xpostfacto won't allow me to boot from the 10.2 CD. I downloaded Intech's disk formatting utility, but that didn't change anything. I AM using the external SCSI bus for my 3 SCSI devices because the primary SCSI bus won't allow me to install 10.1. I'm doing a re-install of 9.1 right now. I'll keep posting updates at times. |

I have seen this message when a disk error occured... Bad memory is another possibility. Is it a real OSX install disk (original)? Marty |
