Strange SCSI Problem and OS X boot |

Dear All. I've an old 8500 I recently upgraded with a Sonnet G4 @ 800 Mhz with 304 MB of RAM, a Radeon 7000, a USB and a Firewire cards. XPF installed Mac OS 10.2 with no problems on a 2 GB Seagate and I've been able to upgrade it to 10.2.4. So far so good, except the small size of the HD. Unfortunately, I decided to add a new HD (a 9 GB) and since then I simply cannot boot the 8500 either under 9.x or X. All I had was the infamous question mark icon. I've resetted the cuda, changed the battery and zapped the PRAM with no effects. I've removed all the SCSI devices, just left the CD-ROM, properly terminated and even the 9.x Install CD didn't boot. I did the same for the HDs and got the same result. I've removed all the cards, same problem. I've removed all the RAM (besides 2 x 128 DIMMs) same problem again. I've changed the SCSI ribbon with a spare one I have, same problem. At last, I decided to remove the Sonnet G4 and swap it by an old 604e @ 225 Mhz and then, surprise, the system boots, but ONLY under OS 9.x. I patiently added all the HW components of the original configuration (I just kept the RAM to 256 MB) and everythings seems to work now, under OS 9. What surprises me is the link between the daughtercard and the SCSI chain. I put back the Sonnet G4 and got exactly the same results as before. The card chimes, everythings seems to be OK but is not able to boot anything. When I swap it for the 604e everything is working under OS 9. Of course I can blame Sonnet as the card was bought less than a month ago and ask for a replacement, but does anyone have clue about what went wrong ? (Ok, except for cosmic rays). The only thing I did was to add a new drive and then something happend... I just wonder what. Also, what is the relationship between the daughtercard and the SCSI bus ?... Did I miss something ?... Many thanks in advance for any input you can provide. --Manuel |

Dear all. The problem I discribed in my previous thread has been fixed ! Apparently the NVRAM went corrupted after I plugged the new HD to the SCSI chain. The NVRAM has been reset and now, everything's running smoothly as before. Thanks for your attention. --Manuel |
