While it is true that a bad DIMM certainly can kill the installation of OS X on any machine, I have had no trouble with interleaved RAM on my 7200 upgraded with a 7500 motherboard. My machine is maxed out at 1 Gb of RAM (8-128Mb DIMMs) so it is all interleaved, and I have had no problems. |

Hi Christian: I am told that the motherboards in the PM7500 and PM8500 are the same. Assuming this is true, I found the following to be necessary when installing OS X using Sonnet's installer. 1. Make CERTAIN that last drive in the chain is properly terminated. 2. Use the ORIGINAL CD-ROM and NOT a higher speed unit. 3. Make certain your target drive is on the EXTERNAL SCSI bus; either mount it in an external case OR connect your SCSI chain to the connector immediately next to the connector it is currently plugged in to. On the 8500, the "internal" (and higher speed bus) has its connector with the pins parallel to the plane of the motherboard. The "external" bus connector adjacent to it has the pins perpendicular to the plane of the mother board. 4. Assuming your RAM is OK and the SCSI chain is terminated you should be able to install with no problems. 5. Be advised: This installation TAKES A LONG TIME to complete - about an hour. Cheers, L.T.King |

Update: My 7500 G3/300 with ATI 7000 is running like a champ. The memory was the kicker. Suggestion to macmemorias: deinterleave your ram, check with Guage Pro and then try to reinstall. I suspect that interleaving the ram causes problems on PPC 7500's with OS X. |

After much agony, checked memory again with Guage Pro and found a bad DIMM. I took out the offending new 128 Mb and presto. Re installed after cleaning up a bit and I'm now up and running with OS X. Not very fast but usable with the G3/300. I also went out and got a Radeon 7000 PC version and flashed the rom with the excellent instructions found on this board. My Apple Multiple Scan 17" doesn't like the adapter I had laying around with the new Radeon board. Cheers. |

You may also want to try the slower external SCSI. Your internal drives are now installed on the scsi connector facing the right side. Try the one next to it facing up. I have the 50-80 adapted 36 G HD. I did have one 9.1 GB with it for a while. Mine Sonnet 800 G4 PM7500 is running on the internal scsi no problems. I am using the full 24 wait in XPF |

Check your termination! I have a similar setup - PPC 7500 with G4/800. Everything is working fine for me. Here is what I suggest: I recommend that you VERY THOROUGHLY go over your SCSI chain and verify that you have proper termination. In the case of the two IBM drives that are 80-50 pin adapted.... these drives only have PASSIVE termination... they do not provide the proper ACTIVE termination. In my set-up, I have the stock 1Gb HD providing this, while X.2.4 is running off of the IBM 9.1Gb(80-50pin). Its also good to check the termination of the CD-ROM, sometimes this is set wrong. Verify it, don't guess. |

I need help too. I have a very similar setup. PM 7500 with Sonnet G3 300, 9.1 GB Western Digital (also 80 pin to 50 pin adapter), another 3.1 GB Quantum, (both HD formatted with Hard Disk Speed Tools HFS+) 2 X 128 Mb RAM (checks good with Guage Pro), removed all other boards. Hangs during install of OSX. Could this be a problem with the Ultra SCSI 80 pin to Fast SCSI 50 pin adapter? I've checked the SCSI termination many times, moved my memory around still nothing. I get through the initial install assistant and then during install it hangs. Bad CD???? Any other ideas? I once even got OS X to boot but then hung when the setup assistant ran (enter your name, address, network, etc.). |
