I want to upgrade the board of my 8500/120. My board will not go higher thatn 42 MHz on the bus. I was looking to a 8600/200 (50MHz, Av capable board). I haven't been able to look into the bluprints of the boards, but they look like they will fit. I want to know if anyone has tried and if it feasible. What about the mobo for the 7600? They look like they fit and no chche module (ev capable?). I've seen that the personality card of the 7600 is missing some ports (video out?). Does any body know if the motherboard has full hardware capabilities or is missing some of the hardware. When I installed 10.2 (from 10.1), I lost my sound card. My sound, via the personality card, came back after I upgraded the system from 10.2 to 10.2.4. |

My mach G3 is really old. I'm truing to get a ZIF socket card. Are there any incompatibilities with the XRL8 zif adapter and the 8500. |

Are you still using the original 256 K motherboard cache? If yes, this explains your problem, as this cache won't go any faster than 45 MHz. Just remove it, and you should be able to go way over 50 MHz. I have used 3 upgrade cards already on my 8500/120 and with all of them I could overclock the bus up to 57 MHz. |

Mine was an 8500/120 the problem is in the upgrade card speed a 300 is only able to go up to 40 when configured as recomended if you push it to high it will get unstable. If you want a 50mhz bus get a 400 or 500mhz zif for your card. According to the chart from XLR8 you can configure a 50mhz bus but it is not a recomended configuration. Save your money for a faster cpu not a faster LogicBoard. |

That was my asumption, that the upgrade card dictates the acutal speed on the mobo. I have a XLR8 Mach g3 300, and it refuses to go higher than 43 MHz. According to the documentation, it should be able to do 50 Mhz. Probably some of the components used on the mobo of 120 are not up to specs to be fully capable to substain the 50Mhz bus, and I'm trying to get a 50 MHz capable board (like 200/250/300) so I can get optimal compatibility. |

fixijc is correct. The system bus is dictated by the processor card installed. Since you have a 120 card it runs at approx. speed of 40mHz. Should you install a card with a 100 or 200 speed, the bus will run at or near 50mHz. On my 8500 my G3/400 card ran @50mHz (multiple of 8) and my Sonnet G4/800 also ran with a system bus of 50mHz. |

Actually your board should go to at least 50 mhz it depends on the jumpers on your G3/4 card. my 8500 /G3 400 is running a 50mhz bus. It depends on the capibilities of your upgrade card. |
