Plaintalk Mic Input Not Working |

I am VERY satisfied with XPostFacto and this forum. I am now running a 9500/200 upgraded with Sonnet G4/700 (using the free Sonnet Updater for L2 and L3 cache that I learned about in THIS forum; thanks!) , an older Sonnet ATA/66 controller, ADS Tech 2 port firewire card, Entrega 4 port USB 1 card, two Radeon 7000's (one Mac Edition, one PC 64mb version flashed according to instructions found in THIS forum; thanks guys!), 603mb RAM; 40 and 80gb IDE Hard Drives. I am running my old 2gb SCSI drive and 8x CD ROM just in case I need to reinstall OS X before RYAN gets Firewire bootable) Everything (almost) is running great and silky smooth for my purposes. iMovie is slow, but I was expecting to get a video editing machine out of this upgrade. The only thing that just plain doesn't work is the Plaintalk Mic input. The Sound control panel/System Preference shows a Built-in Audio Controller for Sound input but there is no response from the mic. I've tried the Plaintalk mic and a Jabra earset to no avail. Has anyone gotten this to work? Thanks in advance Tom |

I wonder if there is something different about the sound hardware on the 8500 and 8600 that is allowing them to work since they were AV models? That's just speculation but that IS a common denominator to both JOEVT and TEMPEST that said their sound input jacks are working. Is there anyone who doesn't have an 8500/8600 that has sound input working? Tom |

But the microphone input gain can be adjusted. While I haven't tried the RCA jacks, I doubt they along with the S-video will work under OS X. |

I just tried plugging a stereo into the microphone jack of my 8600 and it works fine. I haven't tried the audio input and output RCA jacks yet. The only problem with the audio in OS X is that the output volume can't be changed. |

That's strange. Like I've said in another thread, my microphone (extra long plug) that was included w/ my 8500 works fine under OS X. There's feedback in the System Preferences panel and I can record sounds without any trouble. |

The built in mic port has never worked me with XPF... I imagine it actually would only require stuffing a few bits into the proper place to tell the mac which audio in to use, but we don't have that info or a tool to do that.... Marty PS USB based inputs like iMic do work. |

Firewire booting WILL require a helping drive and the sound control panal not working is normal and i think that the mic problem is normal too but i am not 100% on that. |

Sound input is a well known problem for which there is no known solution except to buy a PCI sound card or a usb solution. I recently bought an M-Audio Revolution 7.1 sound card and it works great! Supposedly Apple is slowly working in Soundblaster support into the OS but it is not expected to be functional until 10.3 Panther. I read this on Thinksecret.com. |

I think Ryan said that FireWire booting will require a helper hard drive to boot like the Installer CD does. |
