I use VPC 6 on my Powerbase 467mhz G3 (144mb RAM, Radeon 7K 64mb). Works not too badly. However, in OS X it is unusable. I usually reboot into OS 9.1 for VPC- because OS 9 only eats around 30mb RAM from the system, so I can crank the memory to 114mb if I must (as opposed to only 32mb in OS X, I could do more, but then the machine struggles). I only use VPC 6 on Mac because VPC 5 Wintel is buggy. |

I'm use VPC 6 on my Power Tower Pro w/Sonnet G4 800, 10.2.4, and 1GB RAM. Win2k Professional runs relatively fast in my opinion. I also have Solaris 8 installed and that runs pretty well, considering that the hardware is all emulated. I installed Solaris in VPC because it would not run X-Windows on the IBM Thinkpad I got from work and I need to use some of the graphical administration tools that Sun provides. When I have time to troubleshoot the Thinkpad I'll revisit the installation again. So far everything works as it should. It's worthwhile having, at least in my case. |

I run VPC on my 9500 with a G4/800 and 10.2.4. First v5 and now v6. It is usable with NT4; in my experience on several different computers (this one, an iBook/800, and a dual G4/533), NT4 is waaaay faster than both anything before or after it, and is quite fast on the G4, slower on the iBook, slower still on the 9500 (despite the G4/800). The 9500 has 700+ Megs of RAM. |

I have used both VPC 5 and VPC 6 on my 8600/500 G3 with OS X. I have both Win 95 and Win XP Pro installed. There is a dramatic difference in speed between the two OSes. XP pro is barely usable - even if you are used to VPC. Windows 95 works fairly well. I have used Office XP without any trouble, and run IE 5 to check out web sites under windows. There is a noticable difference still between VPC under OS 9 and VPC under OS X. I don't use VPC enough to warrant booting back to OS 9 though. I have also run VPC 6 with XP pro on my Powerbook G4/867 and the difference is huge. XP Pro is definately usable with the G4/867. I have commented in this forum before, that I was surprised that our Old world machines ran OS X almost as well as the newer machines, but with VPC there is no comparison. It would be interesting to hear how VPC runs on the Old World machines with the G4/800 upgrades.... if you want any specific benchmarks, let me know and I will ruin them for you... |

Jim: But it would install on the machine? And otherwise appear to run without difficulty? Cheers, Lonnie |

i have, but i never used it for normal Applications, i tried using it for some games but because it has no hardware acceleration games play like crap (that may be an understatement). I never needed it for anything else so unless you wanted it for games i cannot ive any advice. |
