Kanga won't cold boot into OS X 10.1 |

I just got OSX 10.1 installed and it works great. The only problem is that I cannot boot straight into OS X. I have to boot into OS 9.04 and then use xpostfacto to boot into 10.1. When I do a cold boot it stops at a blank gray screen. I know beggars can't be choosers, but it takes me 10 minutes to get into X. Anyone have any ideas??? |

I actually have the same problem with my Kanga. What works for me is this: hold down the option key to reboot into Mac OS 9. However, don't bother to let the full boot process complete. Instead, as soon as you see the arrow-cursor, hit command- control-powerkey to reboot again. Then, for some reason, booting into Mac OS X works (for me, at least). This isn't ideal, obviously. The root cause may still be the PRAM battery--I'm not entirely sure. |

Hi, Just thought I'd toss my two cents worth in. Obvious that the pram battery is dead. Replacement is not outside the skills of the average clock dismantler. Contact "www.powerbooksplus.com". They'll sell you one for $25+ship. Includes the special torx-8 driver. $18 without the driver. |

The PRAM battery might be the problem. I checked with NewerTech's Guru utility & it says the PRAM battery on a 3400 is a service centre replacement item. It doesn't mention anything about the PRAM battery on a Kanga so I don't know if this is easily replaceable. |

I think it may be my pram battery. Would this be possible? I looked on ebay and the guy there said the way to tell is put the computer to sleep then unplug it and remove the battery. I did this and the sleep light (green flashing) goes away instantly. |

Thanks, I have tried these things, but I wasn't sure what to look for when booting in verbose mode. Also, I can restart X back into X, or when I do a restart (without using xpostfacto) from 9 I can boot into X. I don't have alot of time right now, but later I'll boot in verbose mode and make a few notes of any errors. Thanks again for the response. |

A few things to try :- - Clearing the PRAM - Setting the input & output devices in XPF's Advanced menu - Setting Verbose boot in XPF's Advanced menu I have a 3400 which is essentially the same and that boots directly into OS 10.1.5 when required. |
