General PM 9600 Memory Question |

Apple lists the maximum memory for the 9600 as 768MB using 64MB cards. I know the 9600 will support 128MB cards. Can anyone confirm that the 9600 can access memory up to 1536MB? Theoretically that would be the max (12 slots X 128MB) I was just wondering if anyone has gotten it up that high, or past 768MB for that matter. Scott |

It varies from machine to machine. I have a Power Tower Pro (9500) and an XLR8 G4/450. My system was initially unstable with my RAM (1GB) interleaved. I was ultimately able to reinterleave but only after reinstalling my original 1MB L2 cache. I don't know if this will work for non-Power computing systems. According to xlr8yourmac.com's admin the cache chips that Power Computing used at the time were higher spec'd than those that Apple used. Supposedly they corrected a timing problem between the RAM and the processor. That's how it worked for me in the end. I swithched to a Sonnet G4//800 and have had no problems with interleaved RAM since |

It definately will. I have a 9500 with 12 128MB chips (1.5GB). Works fine. |

jmgwalsh. The XLR8 G4/450 is likely the source of your problem. They don't like interleaved RAM. |

Hi, I have 12 x 128MB 168 Pin Mac 5V DIMMs 60NS 4K FPM non-EDO (2K Per Bank) 1.5GB RAM running on my PM9600 XLR8 G4/450. I can only run Jaguar in "Safe Boot" so far. I also had to turn off memory check, at start-up, it took too long to boot . |

Is is special, but not THAT special. You're right: 1.09GB. Sorry for the typo :-) Tom |

You mean 1.09GB, unless you have a very special 9500. |

I am running 1.9 GB RAM in my 9500 which has a similar configuration: the original 96mb that I got with the machine (1x32mb and 1x64mb modules) and 1024mb of 128mb modules from various manufacturers. Fortunately ALL of my memory has worked just fine after upgrading to OS X (10.2.4). Tom Q. |
