Greetings to all. Considering a new USB Keyboard for my old Powerbase. It runs a Entegra 2 Port USB Card. Does anyone know if these oldworld OF's can be set to get the keyboard from the USB as a input so I can use my USB keyboard for bootup key combinations? Or is that out of the question? I'd think that Openfirmware could somehow be told to use the USB card possibly somehow. |

Has anybody tried using a USB keyboard shared with a PC with a KVM switch? I'd like to hear other people's thoughts on this. Stephen |

I'm using a Logitech cordless keyboard / mouse (usb) with my 7500 and have had good luck. |

No, this does not work. We'd need an newer version of open firmware that had those instructions. I have a generic USB keyboard that I use but keep my ADB keyboard connected and under my desk for emergencies or changing the boot mode. |

Hmm. So if I understand you correctly.. Can you actually hold down something like CMD-V or CMD-S and ether bootup into Verbose Mode or Single User mode? |

I have an 8600 with an adaptec USB / Firewire card, and I have been pretty sucessful with a USB Apple Pro keyboard. The only drawback is the lack of a power key, which makes it impossible to do a CMD-CTRL-POWER reset. I leave my ADB keyboard under my desk just for this. I also has a problem with a background process running wild after a while, that was related to the Apple Pro keyboard. I moved an extension and it works fine now. I use a Kensington USB mouse also. I don't know about the non-Apple USB keyboards, but I would think they will work fine. I would try getting one at a local dealer, so you can always take it back... |
