I finally went out and got a non oldworld Mac. A stripped down B&W G3. I moved all the drives, video card, SCSI card and G4 Ziff into the B&W. I ran XBench and saw about a 25% increase in performance with the G4 at the same cloc speed. I only have 128 megs of RAM in this computer vs around 750 megs in the old one. I'll do the tests again when the new RAM comes. The only real limitations my 7500 had were the lack of an ATA bus or the room for an ATA card and the ocasional loss of sound. Anyone know if there is a way to get the 450 MHZ G3 zif from the B&W Mac to work in a carrier card? |

It was 156.00 from Ebay + 30.00 for 3 sticks of Ram and the video card. The seller thought the processor was bad. I think it was probably a RAM problem rather than a CPU problem. I got a CDRW/DVD ROM for another 55.00 and I have 500 megs of RAM comming from OWC. So far it's not as stable as my 7500 was. I only had one KP the entire time I used it after Jaguar was loaded. I'm sure that at least 1 of the three sticks of RAM that came with it was bad. I'm running now with just 128 Megs and that may be part of the problem. Yesterday I had a KP just as I was shutting down and today I had a freeze. I wonder if there are any problems caused by the Xpostfacto extensions that are still in the system. |
