Where XPostFacto came from? |

Trying to solve a problem on my own (I got no real help from our little group) I came upon this site which seems to be the foundation for much of XPost facto. Many of the problems encountered in this forum seem to be covered on this site. The site is written for hackers (which I am not one). Click on the FAQ link to the right and it covers, in mind numbing depth, much of what bothers many of us. It seems that most of our problems have been answered before. |

That's right--most of what XPF installs is based on early work that Apple did before they cut off support for the older machines. Though the netbsd site does have some useful information, especially around Open Firmware issues. |

Thanks Marty, I encountered the site searching for "open firmware" on Google and it took me to the netbsd site. Much of what was there seemed to be pertinent but, as stated above, it is beyond me. Also agree that what Ryan has done with XPF if incredible and I hope he can return to his goal of building on his work. XPF has worked flawlessly for me. No PCI, USB, or audio issues on 3 machines. The only problem that I have is that after having used open firmware to boot off of an Atto card (it wouldn't boot otherwise), I now have to remove the card to boot into 9. An irritation but one I can live with for the few times needed to boot into 9. CJ |

No this is wrong... NetBSD is s different rig entirely, although it is also an open sourced UNIX OS like the Darwin based OSX... I believe that basically most of what we call XPF was originally included by Apple in the OSX package and was removed when they made the decision to not support old world macs. Since that time Ryan Rempel has single handedly updated and rewritten many of the key components to allow better operation and to support newer OS releases... Ryan is also a Lawyer, so he isn't always available here, but hopefully sometime soon he will get back on track with XPF and we will see even more enhancements to this incredible software. Marty PS Many of the issues we have are really bugs in OSX itself... They just show themselves more frequently on our older hardware (ie PCI/USB/Audio issues). |

For some reason my post did not include the link. Let's try again http://www.netbsd.org/Ports/macppc/ |
