Your message on booting into OS 10 using an ultra SCSI drive in a legacy machine caught my attention. I am guessing you connected the ultra SCSI drive via a PCI adapter, but how do you start up your computer if you need to reformat? Do you need to proceed using an internal, partitioned SCSI-2 drive? Also, what make of adapter card did you use for the PCI/Ultra SCSI connection, which seems to be compatible with Jaguar. -Burton |

For doing some of the wild stuff we are doing with these machines, it is alwayspays to be carefull and keep a drive around JUST IN CASE! |

I am using a SIIG AP-40 SCSI Pro connected to a Maxtor (Quantum) 18.4 GB U-160 Hard Drive at this time. This PCI card is actually a repackaged Acard SCSI card - Model 6712UW which has native support in OS X. I actually purchased the PC version and downloaded the latest Mac firmware off the Acard website. It flashed just fine on my 7500. Some of these cards are also repackaged Advansys cards which now have updated firmware on the Initio website. The Acard though is better because you can boot either OS9 or OSX with the same firmware. I was able to format and partition in OS9 and then used XPostFacto 2.2.4 to install a fresh copy of Jaguar and then updated to 10.2.2. I have since orderd the UL2D SCSI card from OWC in hopes that the new version of XPostFacto 2.2.5b2 will allow me to boot this same drive in Jaguar but using U-160 speeds rather than Ultra Wide speeds. Note: Still have smaller hard drive connected to the fast internal bus with two partitions: the original OS 9.1 and also an OS 10.2.2 for emergency. Cannot be too safe these days. |
