Hi there, My turn to request some help on this forum after using its excellent information to go that far... but not further. Stock 8500 with original CD and 4GB SCSI disk, all properly terminated, internal chain. PowerLogix G3/400 card running at 320/40. De-interleaved RAM (2x 128 + 2x 16). ADB Apple kbd/mouse. Got 10.1.5 to install. Used PowerLogix util to enable cache. That works (slowly). Booting in/out and all with no problems. Now trying to install 10.2 over that stalls at the "Preparing installation..." screen. Rotating colored cursor, menu bar, progress bar is animated for a while then stops and nothing happen (left it for 2 hours). CD drive keeps reading from the install CD... Anybody got an idea, except for the "mystical" swap/change RAM? Tried XPF 2.2 and 2.2.4, no difference. During boot, I get the usual stuff about drivers not found but nothing out of the ordinary... Many thanks for any pointers... |

I also have a PM8500 but with a G4 400 daughter card, 160 MB various ram, generic USB card, Sonnet ATA 100 card. When I installed 10.2 over 10.1.5, I needed to turn all screen saver, drive and video sleep off. Then the install went fine. Currently, 10.2.2 works great, except the sound problem that is widely discussed on this forum. |
