I've been reading about failures while updating the ATI Radeon 7000 ROM to latest version. It seems that sometimes the card becomes unusable and it is not even possible to reinstall the old ROM version. Did anyone tried the update on oldworld macs? Did you apply the update while running Os9 or OsX? Just to know if upgrades on unsupported macs could cause any problem. Thank you |

I have just downloaded again the installer and saw that it was fixed on 22 of january ... updated the card and everithing worked just fine ... I belive that you should never use ATI updates at first release ;-)) |

I had no problems. I originally flashed it in OS X but because of problems ( was actually trying to get a UL2D to work with a Tempo Trio), I flashed it back to the old firmware 205 in OS 9. Later on I flashed it back to 208 without difficulty in OS 9. I believe for many of us there have been no problems. From posts at XLR8YourMac, I believe someone who works for ATI states that the firmware installer has been fixed. Apparently there was a conflict with versions of StuffitExpander less than Version 7 that have been fixed. My Radeon 7000 at that time was in a 7500. |
