RE: Kernel Panic on PowerMac/8600/250 w/Powerlogix February, 11, 2003Â 12:29 PM worldalex . Trying to install OSX on an 8600 with Powerlogix G3/400 installed. Using XPF, it quit four times. The fifth time I erased and partitioned the 120GB hard drive with 15GB for X, 60GB for 9.1 and the rest for Classic. With the freshly erased HD, I got into the install about an hour when the screen went from the blue install screen to where it wiped down the monitor to stall at a one inch high blue line and then froze. Now I have nothing on my 120 drive and it doesn't seem to want to install. Was told by a friend to remove all PCI cards such as USB, FireWire and such and to unplug my SCSI devices so that X has less to hang up on. Should I start over from the beginning with XPF and X? Or is there some way to save all that time? Thanks for any help you can give. |

First thing to try is to remove the ethernet cable (if you have one hooked up). Then reinstall. If that doens't work, try install OSX on a partition smaller than 8 gb. Those 2 tricks worked for my 8600. |

Describe your system a little bit more. Obviously you are using an ATA hard drive but what ATA card are you using. Some of these cards see your hard drive as SCSI and other as ATA. If they see your drive as ATA then you have to repartition and install X withing the first 8G of your drive. Since you state the install went for about an hour I could guess that you got past the installation screen that allowed you to select the 15G partition which would suggest you are using a card that sees your drive as SCSI. Your friend is correct. The more you strip down your system to essentially stock, the easier the install will go. Are you using on board video or an add-on video card? Some video cards do not have built-in support. Every detail about your system will help us help you out. |
