Anyone have success flashing and using an initio MilesUW card with OSX.2 on 8500 or similar machine? Just wondering how the Miles cards work with XPostFacto. Everything but my wide drives works great for me. Ive sent for the flashable version of my card, and thinking of upgrading to an Ultra160 card...Anyone had luck with an ATTO, Adaptec or Miles Ultra 160 cards with XPostFacto? |

I got my Miles version upgrade card(30.00) back from Initio and it looks like a brand new one.....think I'll hold it for my upgrade to a modern Mac, where it'll be used in OS10 only. The ATTO card works great switching between 9 and 10.2. The only downside is that I gave up my RAID in favor of individual drives, so that they appear in both system boots, but then how much do I really gain with RAID in this old machine anyway? |

Just to confirm diditgo's experience is similar to my own for MilesU2W in a UMAX S900 (similar to 9600). I have to flash back and forth when changing from OS X to OS 9. But, since I mostly stay in X (10.2.4) , it is no big deal. Performance of the Barracuda hung onto the MilesU2W is just fine in both X and 9. |

diditgo, Do you mean you have to reflash the Miles card everytime you switched boot drive from OS 9 to OSX? With the report from earlyd416 of ruining his Miles card attempting to flash it, I might just put the flashable card I get back from initio in mothballs until I get a more modern Mac(as marcush suggests). I can always try the ATTO PSC PCI UW from ebay first in my 8500. Thanks to all for the info.... |

Williamrah, that is again correct. The UL2D cards are no longer supported by ATTO. There was a notice to that effect on xlr8yourmac.com a few months ago the last time ATTO upgraded ATTO Tools for OSX. About my Miles cards. I still think I could get them working fine if I flashed them in a more modern Mac. Until I buy a new machine or have the opportunity to try this in someone else's machine I'll have to wait. Still, as you can see other people have no problems so it seems to me that success varies by machine. |

Never could get my Miles flashed right and, as a result, is now useless. However, I have 2 ATTO UL2D working flawlessly in my 8600 & 9600 (one each). --Dwight |

Greetings, I have had continued success with my miles card in 10.2.4. I have to flash the firmware to boot back and forth from nine to ten. Now that I have no more applications to run in nine......I have compleate succuss with miles card in my very fast, happy, and dependable 9600. |

Acard AEC67160M works great for me in 9 and jag. Could not get the ATTO cards to work properly. |

marcush, If I understand correctly, the ATTO UL2D cards are not fully supported and will not be in the future. See this thread and the one response about ATTO cards in particular..... http://dealmac.com/forums/read.html?f=1&i=1080367&t=1079212 |

Williamrah, you are correct. I have two rev F cards. I also have an ATTO UL2D Ultra 2 card that I could never get to work properly. I also tried several firmware revisions witth no success. It is an Apple OEM card which I would have thought would work without problems. It sounds like you're getting a retail card which I understand works better. Good luck. |

Thanks for the news, marcush, even if it is bad. I just sent my card(revision E) to Initio with the required 32.48 for a swap for a flashable card. I assume you have the upgradable version of the UW9100, or you would not have been able to flash it. I'll post my results here when I receive and try the new card. As a sideline, I just ordered an ATTo PSC PCI UW card on ebay and will let you know how it works out...supposed to be OS 10.2 compatible......hope someone else has tried this and will post |

My Miles UW card(s) worked up until 10.2 then became invisible to the system. I managed to flash one with what was then the Latest OSX firmware and it was detected again by ASP but drives, though powered and spinning were invisible to the system. Also, I could not boot back into OS9 with the card installed. My Power Tower Pro would hang during boot every time. All of my SCSI cards are currently mothballed or in a non-OSX machine. I've switched to IDE because the drives are cheaper. That's my experience but I'd be interested to know how others are doing with their Miles cards. Perhaps someone can offer a solution. |
