I have an old 1400c laying around and I was going to give it to my kid to fool around with and he wanted to know if we could put OSX on it. It has a NewerTech 233mhz G3 and 64 megs of RAM along with a 2gig drive. Any thoughts or ideas are welcomed. If it doesn't work no big deal just thought I would ask |

Don't even bother. The problem with the 1400 is that it is based on the nubus architechture, and not the PCI/Open-firmware architecture that Xpostfacto needs. As Ryan has stated in the past (wherever he is), Xpostfacto will never work on nubus class machines. However, I'm currently working on getting OS9 Helper to work with Mac OS 9.2.2. It's coming along nicely, and should be ready soon. -Ben www.os9forever.com |

The Compatibility page (see links above) does not mention the 1400 as a compatible platform so I think you are probably out of luck. However, there's no harm in giving it a go - at worst you'll just have to clear you PRAM to restart in OS9. Having the G3 processor upgrade will certainly improve your chances of success. You'll need about 1GB of free space on the internal drive in order to complete the installation and leave some free space for VM (you'll need plenty of that with only 64MB of physical RAM). Let us know how you get on. |
