B&W G3 450 Zif on Carrier Card |

I have a G3 B&W and a PM 7600. I have replaced the G3 with a G4 in the B&W and I want to put the pulled G3 on the Carrier card. The zif works fine in the B&W but when I put it in the Carrier card I get no startup tone. I have tried using a variety on bus multipliers and I still get nothing. Is anyone out there using a G3 pulled from a B&W system? I would like to sell the zif since I can get the 7600 working with a 500 mhz Newer G3 but it dosn't seem like it would have as much value if the only computer you could use it with was another B&W G3. |

The Ram could be a posability. It seems like most problems people have with both older Macs and newer Macs can be traced to RAM. Each time I try with the Apple card in the Carrier and then go back to the Newwer Zif in the Carrier it works fine. I guess there could be something specific to the IBM Longhorn version of the G3 that could make a diferance with the way it ineracts with the RAM. I think I'll just leave well enough alone and keep the Newwer Zif in. I just hope that whoever gets this chip on Ebay can use it. I would hate to get it back especially if there attempts to get it working killed the Zif. |

have you also checked to see if your RAM might be faulty? Becuase I have one of these XLR8 cards which one of the problems was a truncated stratup sound. Tonight after I went through my RAM while tracking down another problem I was surprised when I got my startup tone again on the first boot. |

I did try the cuda button. Hopefully it's something specific to my Carrier card and not the zif. |

gchron, that's the same setting I started with. It's strange. The Zif works fine in the B&W but doesn't even get to a chime in the 7600. Somewhere I read about the pins in some zifs being shorter. If I look really close it looks like there might be a slight difference between the zif from the G3 and the Newer tech zif that works. Hopefully it's not going to be a problem for whoever gets it on Ebay. |

I have the same carrier card and the 300Mhz G3 pulled from B&W now works at 375 Mhz ... it's very strange you could't get it to work. Make sure the carrier card is correctly installed in its slot, you should't see the gold connector ... if you still can see a bit of it, it means the card is not fully seated. |

I have the same configuration. I have a carrier MMP card from XLR8 and a G3 450 from a B&W G3. The problem is that I could make it only to work at 400 as the card cannot work as a 500. I had connacted XLR8 during that time and they told me that this card does not support the 10x multiplier. If you have the same card as mine try this comfiguration. switch number - ON/OFF 01 - OFF 02 - OFF 03 - ON 04 - ON 05 - OFF 06 - ON 07 - ON 08 - ON 09 - ON 10 - OFF |
