Floating Beachball with 7000 |

I have a 7300 with XLR8 G4/350, 10.1.5, XPF 2.2.5 b7. I have generally good luck (I anticipated the sound issues), but a few "quirks". I recently added a PCI slot Raeon 7000, did all of the installs and ROM upgrades (and "downgrades also - trying both ways), followed all advice about setting output device with XPF, and I still get the multicolored beachball hanging out in the upper left corner. It won't go away at all... My MultipleScan 1705 Apple monitor wont turn on until partway thorough the boot process, as though it is waiting for ATI drivers to load. Thus, no verbose info, "safe boot", etc. No problems like this in OS 9 or when I connect the same monitor to the motherboard video in either OS's. Also, Toast 5.1.1 will burn data but not audio to my LaCie USB CD-RW, and iTunes not at all. BTW, yes, slogging through forums is time consuming, but I have to admit that I learned quite a bit of interesting new info! |

Make sure that you set your input device to the keyboard in XPF's prefs. The Radeon 7000 is really finicky about this - you need to specify both your input and output devices to get rid of the spinning beach ball. That will also solve your dark screen issue during boot up. |
