I've upgraded to 10.2.6 OSX and upgraded to the lastest quicktime and iTunes4. Then I figured I should upgrade to Ipod 1.3.1, that's when my ipod quit. When I launch the upgrade the computer freezes during upgrade or the ipod won't stay on the desktop for the upgrade to begin. |

There are some recent posts on this forum listing various memory testing utilities. You could also try removing your existing DIMMS one at a time to see if this has any effect. I'm not sure your firewire card is an "Oxford" - that term refers to the IDE-FW bridge chips typically employed in external hard drives. However the fact that your FW disk works ok suggests that the card is not the problem. You didn't mention if you had run any disk repair utilities. |

I have a 80 gb Firewire hard drive that stores my iTunes library. Also how do you check your memory? I have 320MB ram. The firewire card is an Oxford. |

What machine and Firewire card do you have? Maybe it's the Firewire that's causing your machine to crash not the iPod update itself? Do you have any other FW devices that work on this machine? Also the fact that you have to do multiple reboots before OSX restarts properly suggests there may be other hardware problems. Have you tried running a Disk repair utility (e.g. Disk Warrior) on your system disk. After all these crashes you may well have some major corruption. At least boot from a different disk and run Disk First Aid in "Verify" mode to see what it reports. I'd also suggest you check out your RAM - crashes and hangs like this are often caused by marginal RAM. |

The OSX disappeared completely from my computer. So I reloaded it back to 10.2.3. I still can't load Ipod 1.3 to my ipod because it crashes my computer every time. It usually takes several restarts before OSX completely loads back up and then I still try to load 1.3 Ipod Controller and it freezes the machine again. I'm starting to pull all my hair out. |

Are you launching the upgrade or iTunes and letting it find the upgrade and proceed.? I have had better luck doing everything through iTunes. If you haven't, I would try plugging in the iPod, then launching iTunes if it doesn't launch automatically. It should find the update and ask to download. to iPod Perhaps you've done this, but I know I didn't have any luck last time I tried to update by launching the updater alone..... but was able to update with iTunes. Don't know why however. |
