I threw in the towel on my old 7600 (with a Sonnet G3 500MHz processor) and moved up a notch to a Beige G3 with a desire for greater speed. I also purchased a Powerlogix G3 800MHz processor with a 800 MHz L2 cache (1:1 technology). The speed of my Beige G3 is best described as being very, very quick. HOWEVER, I ran into a new problem. The Powerlogix G3 800 MHz processor is suppose to be compatible with BOTH OS 9.x and OS 10.1.5+ and I can only get it to run in OS 9.x. Prior to installing the 800MHZ Zif, my Beige had an Apple 266MHz Zif and both OS 9.2.1 & 10.1.5 ran fine. After installing the 800MHz zif processor only 9.2.1 runs and the OS 10.1.5 freezes right at the very start with a wide band of white streaking horizontally across the screen. I figure if it was a hardware problem it would also shut down OS 9. I did try installing OS 10.2.3 and got the same freeze as with 10.1.5. Also, I pulled the Powerlogix out and tried reinstalling the original Apple G3 266MHz processor and OS-X still freezes. So in ruling out a hardware problem I put the Powerlogix Zif back in my Beige. I like the snappiness of a G3 800 MHz processor with a 800 MHz L2 cache, but I'm stuck in OS-9 and I need to use OS-10.2.3. I need help! I'm open to suggesti |

Hi rsgleason2000, Have you try using the L2CacheConfig s/w to enable the L2 cache on the processor upgrade card? http://eshop.macsales.com/OSXCenter/XPostFacto/framework.cfm? page=L2CacheConfig.html Also, please set the throttle to anything between 4 and 8 when selecting to restart in OS X. Hope this help, Marcus |

cuda reset? zap pram? then try to reset OpenFirmware: init-nvram set-defaults reset-all Make sure your RAM is PC100 CAS2 and 8 ns. If you disk drive is more than a year old, I'd get a new model, they really do help for unknown reasons, besides being better performers. |
