i grabbed one of these cards from weirdstuff.com based on the information from xlr8yourmac.com and this forum. i was certain that it would work at 100mbps in os x, with no driver installation necessary. so far no luck. installed it in my 7.00/200 G3 300. two of the PCI slots are used: atto ultra scsi card and firewirestuff combo card. i've only tried the zynx card in slot 1, and appletalk worked but not TCPIP. my dhcp server would not give it an IP. is there any reason i should try this card in a different slot? i'm looking for a speed upgrade for this box so that it can serve multimedia files (namely, streaming video on my home LAN). i use VLC (videolan.org) to play my library of movies (it almost works perfectly...almost. still see frame drops and stutters which i believe is the result of not enough bandwidth at the server end). the player for my movies is a busted G4 laptop (dropped it from about nipple-high, broke the LCD). the s-video out port is linked to my entertainment center to my TV. works pretty darn well. i'm in the process of ripping my DVDs using forty-two...oops, sorry, got off topic there. -sTv |

There isn't any good reason why your card shouldn't get DHCP from your server. I have two of the cards in my 9500, and when copying between my Pismo and the 9500, i get uplink at about 25 Mbits/sec. which is pretty darn good, all things considered. Dare I say it, but maybe your install of OS X is bad, or maybe your DHCP server is being weird. But if you can, try another slot. Sounds just plain weird. |
