finally got XPF to work. had disabled autoboot, and had 'none' selected for inout & output. who knew? so I have 10.0 installed. but it boots into the setup assistant, and the monitor (13") only shows the left middle part of the window. I can't get to the continue button. return does not activate the button. i force quit SA, but it just keeps coming back up. any ideas? this machine (ptpro/g4700 sonnet) has an ATI Mach64 card and has had 10.1.5 on it before. so i don't think it's the video card. I do have an ATI 7000 I will try to install. think I can still upgrade the 10.0 to 10.1 and 10.2 without resolving the monitor resolution issue? |

The following from the faq: Query: When I boot Mac OS X the first time after installing it, my monitor resolution is 640 x 480. This means that I cannot complete the Setup Assistant, because the "Continue" button is offscreen. Ryan's Response: Try installing Mac OS X 10.1. I have had one report that 10.1 detects this problem, and offers a workaround. Alternatively, you can create an empty file at this path: /private/var/db/.AppleSetupDone In this case, the Setup Assistant will not run. I haven't tried this from a fresh installation myself, so I'm not sure how you would log in at this point--perhaps as root with no password. In this case, you will want to quickly create additional users and either disable root login or give root a password. If anyone gets this to work, I'd be interested to hear about the procedure. ________ If this does not work, you need to borrow a multi-sync monitor. |
