Hi I have managed(one way or another.....not to sure about how to I did this!) to get Darwin 6.2.2 running on a Kanga(Orig G3 or 3500)... I just cannot get the Ethernet working..... "ioreg -l" does not show any MAC-address at all.... Any ideas anyone.... ?? Or if any Ethernet PCCard will work ?? Then that'll probably be the way to go... Thanks in advance! |

This is a known problem with the ethernet-only Kangas. The ones that have the combo ethernet-modem port seem to work better. The technical problem is that the Apple_DECEthernet driver in Darwin doesn't like the SROM in the ethernet-only Kanga. One potential solution might be a more general driver for that hardware--I know that Chuck Remes was working on a Darwin driver for the tulip hardware, and that might be worth investigating. Actually, the other thing you might check is to make sure that the Apple_DECEthernet driver is actually installed. It would be in /System/Library/Extensions, and called Apple_DEC21x4Ethernet.kext. It's been a while since I've worked with a pure Darwin system, but I remember at one point that some of the drivers were a separate binary- only download. |
