I got an OWC firewire casing with a Maxtor ATA 1300 30GB hard drive in as an external drive. I can copy data from SCSI to FW drive without any problem But It always hav kernel panic when I copy data back from FW drive to SCSI Drive. I am using PM 7300 with Sonnet G3400 with 512MB RAM with 10.2.6 installed. |

There are a few things you could try - Check the firmware on your FW card - there's an update on the Orange Micro site for your card but I think this only addresses SCSI issues. Try a different FW cable and plug it into a different socket on the card and on the disk drive to eliminate the possibility of a bad connection. Update to 10.2.8 - this contains updated FW drivers which cured an I/O error that I was experiencing with my FW drive under 10.2.6. I'm running 10.2.8 on my 8600 without any problems, including booting from a FW drive. Try checking your system log file (/var/log/system.log) for FW errors, the ones to look for are "IOFireWireSBP2Login::fetchAgentWriteComplete fetch agent write failed!" If none of this helps then a listing of the kernel panic might help - you'll need to set the "Show Panic Text" option in the XPF debug menu in order to get any meaningful output. In fact, while you're looking in the system log file see if there are any relevent messages in the log just before the kernel panic occurs. |
