XPF won't install on non-boot volume? |

I partitioned a 9G SCSI outboard for 9.1 and OSX. I clean-installed 9.1 on a small partition to have a boot volume. I then ran XPF to install OSX on the other partition. The install started and ran for a while and then stopped around 40M. I tried the installation again and the installer would not let me choose the OSX volume because "XXXXXX" is not a boot volume. OSX not installed." It did not do that before when I started the installation the first time. I downloaded a new copy of XPF, trashed the old one, and re-ran installation with same results. I cleaned the OSX partition completely and tried again with same result. Why would XPF let me start install the first time around, and stop me the other times? Don't know what else to do differently. |

It sounds like XPostFacto won't let you "Restart" from your target volume because the Mac OS X installation process did not complete. That is, it means what it says--Mac OS X is just not installed their yet. But it should allow you to try the "Install" procedure again (i.e., to finish the job). In cases where the Mac OS X Installer fails part way through the install, it appears that the most common problem relates to memory. You could try removing some DIMMs to see if you can isolate a problematic one. Sometimes just de-interleaving memory helps. |
