Custom Installer CD, L2 Cache Config |

This is a restatement/rewording of "Startup from custom-burned OS X CD" XPostFacto once had the ability to: 1) create a custom installer CD or HD partition. The Prepare button, which was a descendant of , copied the kernel extensions onto the volume represented by the image of the Mac OS X Install CD you had just created, which you could then burn onto a CD with Toast, or copy to a hard disk volume with version 2.1.1 (or later) of Apple Software Restore, and 2) boot from it by pressing the Restart button, which the Prepare button was named when a non-writable Mac OS X Install CD volume was mounted. but both of these functions have been (temporarily?) removed from subsequent versions. I still have my XPostFacto 2.11-enabled Mac OS X Install CD, and often make use of it. (I'm still running 10.1) Any chance of (1) and (2) above making a comeback? Also, what about somehow getting L2 Cache Config to activate the backside L2 cache during the Installer boot process? This has always been on my wish list, but now that I've toasted my S900's soldered-onto-the-motherboard cache trying to do the J38 modification, and have no L2 cache at all during OS X installation, it's up there at the top of my wish list. |

The "Prepare" functionality didn't work past about Mac OS X 10.1.3 or so, and needs some changes for Mac OS X 10.2. It is on the list of things I want to get working again for XPostFacto 3.0 (with some UI changes to help manage some of these features better). Activating the L2 cache during install is something I'd like to do to (I've commented on that in another thread recently). There are a couple of issues to resolve to make that happen--I'll work on it. |

Since, apparently, DOS-compatible CR/LF is necessary, I'm reposting my reposting.
