I am guessing by the complete slowdown of my machine since upgrading from 10.1.5 to jaquar, that the Xlr8 sped control panel is not being recognized and i am no longer running my backside cache? Is there a fix for this? |

I'm glad it worked! A couple of hints. My XLR8 upgrade worked best in OS 9 with spec processing and write through turned off and at a 5:2 cache setting. In OSX Ryans says there is no reason to turn Spec processing off. You will get a small speed burst by turning it on. Write through should still be off unless your cpu is running at 500mhz or faster in which case just like OS9 it should be on. I am able to use 2:1 cache setting in OSX with that and spec processing on it really makes a difference. If you get a warning message when you try to change to 2:1 cache setting then don't do it your machine will freeze. Best of luck and your milage may vary.... |

Thanks, that did the trick. Cache contril is basically drag and drop into the terminal window. Once i launced the program i chose to disable write- trhu AND speculative processing. I am running it at 5:2 for 196mghz, and it seems fine. Thanks for the support!!! |

Yes, go to the Powerlogix.com web page and download Cache Control X. You do need to carefully follow directions on using the Terminal app to install it. It works great and is the only softwawre that gives you full control of your backside cache in OSX. Ryan's L2 cache software also works well but is not as full featured and some machines Umax and Apple 9500 & 9600 need the extra features. XLR8 software as you found out no longer works with the newer upgrades of OSX. AS you likely know the company is out of business so upgrades aren't too likely Will S |
