Greetings to all. I know this is a tiny little resource-impaired machine in the corner of my basement. But I figured for $10, it's worth a try. My Machine is a Powerbase 200, with 80mb RAM, a 13gb ATA Drive (IDE), a 8x Nec Multispin SCSI CDRom drive, onboard ATI Rage 3D II w/2mb RAM, and it has a 603e 200mhz PowerPC Processor. My friend recently showed off his machine running OS X, VERY similar to the above machine- 603e, except it was 240mhz, but still had 80mb RAM, and ran quite nicely. I recently tried to install OS X. I pop in my 10.0.4 iMac install CD (installs on any machine although it says iMac), and first XPF says that the CD can only be used as a Installer. Fine. I config Openboot to use my Keyboard as input, and my ATI onboard as output. XPF copies a lot of files to the HD. My HD is as follows: 3gb Mac OS 9 Partition 9gb OS X HPF+ Partition I hope this is correct. I'm not sure if the OS X partition should be first or not. After the files whiz by, the computer reboots. OB comes up with the white screen, and says something like Bootr, Unknown Word. I reboot via a reset. OB comes back up and complains that some iCLAIM error has occured. Then I get the good 'ol OK Prompt. Says to type BOOT and RETURN to boot the default device. Sure. BOOT Return. Next up. Some form of boot Claim error. It just repeats this regardless of how many times I say BOOT and Return (pressing return that is). Can anyone help me out? I'm pretty sure that the machine is OS X Compatible. Any ideas? Thanks! |

Mac OS X 10.0 and 10.1 would work with the 603 and 604 CPUs. It is Mac OS X 10.2 that requires a G3 or G4. The PowerBase motherboard is similar to the 6400 and 6500, and your results are a little like what people are getting on those machines at this time. So once I get the 6400 and 6500 working, the PowerBase may work as well. |

I could be insane, but I thought OSX only worked on old-world macs that have a G3 or G4 processor upgrade card. -b |
