Rage Orion Kernel Panic Fix... |

I got a kernel panic when installing Jaguar on my 8500 (G4/400) w/ a rage Orion card, and i had to take out the card to upgrade from 10.1.5 AND to do a clean install to an empty disc (i did this after experiencing stability issues after upgrading 10.1.5 to Jaguar). It's a major pain in the ass, but i couldn't find a way around it... anyway: Lo and behold, after i take out the card, do a clean install of jag, replace the card and reboot, it gives me the same error. Funny, cause the upgrade from 10.1.5 didn't do this. so, i go and download ATI's september ROM update and install it, and as a precaution, i re-copy the ATI ROM extender from OS9/System Folder/Extensions/ATI Rom extender to X/System/Library/Extensions/AppleNDRV/ reboot, and everything's working fine. no kernel panic. also, no telling if it was the ROM update, or the ROM extender file that did the trick, although i'm leaning towards the ROM extender, cause i've used the ROM updater a few times before with no luck, and I had to have the ROM extender installed for 10.1.5 to work. hope this keeps someone from destroying a perfectly good Rage Orion card like i nearly did. |
