Hi... I'm attempting to install 10.2 on a 7500, which has a 1 gb SCSI with OS 9.1, a 4 gb SCSI that I want to put 10.2 on, Yamaha CDRW, 128 mb RAM, 233 mhz XLR8 G3 upgrade that was pulled from a Umax J700 (which happily is running 10.2 with a faster upgrade card). Don't know if it matters, but I had a heck of a time finding settings for the XLR8 upgrade that didn't give me "bus error" or "illegal instruction" on boot. Finally seemed to have things running stable in 9.1. Installed XPostFacto 2.2.3, put the 10.2 disc in the CD, chose to install 10.2 on the 4 gb SCSI volume. Reboot. Get the gray apple on white background for a couple seconds, then a pile of text scrolling by. What's left is this: ------------------------ "Kernel version: Darwin Kernel version 6.0; Sat Jul 27 13:18:52.PDT 2002; root:xnu/xnu-344.obj~1/RELEASE_PPC No debugger configured - dumping debug information MSR=00001030 Latest stack backtrace for cpu 0: Backtrace: 0x0008593C (... more of these numbers) Proceeding back via exception chain: Exception state (sv-0x00A11500) PC=0x00000000; (... more of these numbers)... Kernel version: Darwin Kernel version 6.0; Sat Jul 27 13:18:52.PDT 2002; root:xnu/xnu-344.obj~1/RELEASE_PPC panic: We are hanging here... --------------------- Any suggestions what this is, where to go from here? Thanks, Patrick McNamara |

This is a problem with version 2.2.3 of XPostFacto. I think I have fixed it with version 2.2.4b1--if you could try that and let me know if it works, I would be most grateful. Here's the URL (I haven't officially released it yet, which was just as well, as my first upload attempt seems to have run into a glitch of some kind. But I think it's working now): http://eshop.macsales.com/OSXCenter/XPostFacto/Download/XPostFacto2.2.4b1.sit |

I was able to see more what was happening when trying to load 10.2 on the 7500... a lot of it looks like what gchron was reporting here too: ----------- verifyCompatibility(): Extension "com.apple.iokit.IOPCIFamily" cannot be found getDependencyListforKmod(): dependency com.apple.iokit.IOPCIFamily of com.apple.driver.ApplePowerSurgePE is not compatible or is unavailable load_kernel_extension():can't get dependencies for kernel extension "com.apple.IOCatalogue: com.apple.driver.ApplePowerSurgePE cannot be loaded panic (cpu 0): Unable to find driver for this platform: "AAPL,????" ----------- Anyone have any ideas on what may be causing this? Thanks. |

I did some research in order to have more data in order to help fix this strange problem. So I show the debag menu in the XPF and I pressed all the menus. After that I was able to read all the problems as The gray screen was not found. Here are the data: Verify Compatibility(): Extension "com.apple.IOkit.IOPCIFamily" cannot found getDependencyListForKmod(): Dependency com.apple.iokit.IOPCIFamily of com.apple.driver.ApplePowerSurgePE is not compatible or is unavailable load_kernel_extension(): Can't get dependencies for kernel extension "com.apple.driver.ApplePowerSurgePE" IO Catalogue: "com.apple.driver.ApplePowerSurgePE" cannot be loaded Panic(CPU0): Unable to find driver for this platform "AAPL,9500" As I can understand the problem is that the ApplePowerSurgePE possible has the problem. I hope that this hill help to resolve the problem and so to install again the MacOS X 10.2 and leave the 10.1 back |

I just seen this problem in a 9500 Yesterday I was able to install 10.2 but today I wanted to reinstall it. Yesterday I had the same problem but it seemed to sopped when I tried an older version of XPF. But today this is not working too. Before all these info you just said, I have seen something that a driver was not found. As a gray screen is above this I could not read it but it said something about PCI drivers. The gary screen is telling me that I have to reboot (even this does not resolves the problem) |
