I've followed the various threads on sound in/sound out and I'm not sure what the problems are exactly. My system is a PowerMac 8500 with Sonnet Crescendo PCI G3/450, 320 MB RAM, ATI Rage 128, generic USB2.0/FW, 2*4GB Conner SCSI drives, External Ricoh MP7060S burner. Base install of OS X was 10.2.1 and I've applied updates to 10.2.6. My second boot drive is 9.2.2 and I have a separate Classic install which is 9.2.2. The PlainTalk mic has always worked from the time I installed Jag. We turned on voice recognition and my kids had fun speaking commands to the Chess program. Sound out works as far as I have tested. I have RCA cables going from the audio (R/L) of the AV board to an external receiver which I use to drive speakers. Sounds great! I haven't tried sound in except to use Coaster under OS9 which worked fine. Also, haven't tried using the video in/out. Am I very lucky, or am I missing the thing that isn't working for everyone else? |

The 7300 Main Board is the same as the 8600 Kansas Main Board. The power supply pinout is different, thought they accept the same daughter cards. I thought the 7600 had the same spec's, excepting daughter card, as the 7500. Then again, the chips on the MB are a year newer. ~alex |

Actually I believe that it was either the 7300 had a different pinout on the powersupply. most of the 7*00 series machines used the same pinouts as the 8500 it was just that one oddball I believe was the 7300 that had a different pinout |

You are saying you get sound in from a plaintalk mic? That pretty much show is unbelievable to me... I'm not sure why, other then I have NEVER seen it work under any version of OSX on any of my systems... 8500,7500,9600,Powertowerpro,Powerwave. We MUST figure out why it works for you... Is there some known difference in the audio chip involved? Marty |

7500 and 8500 PSU connectors are the same. It's going from x500 to x600 models that changes the pins (and number of them). |

I think I read somewhere that the 7*00 series and 8500 series boards are physically similar (they will fit either case) but the pinouts on the power supply connector are different, so you have to change some of the wires around for it to work. |

good to know. I am Curious as to the hardware difference between the 7600 and the 8500. Thanks for the info! |
