I tired what WIll said and it is still not working. The machine stopped working when I booted into 9, and tried to boot into X. And the palace went dark. Any ways, if anyone wants a PowerMac 9600 I will sell it for $100.00 including shi;pping handling and insurence. I will put all the factory default hardware back into it. Michael Email me about the 9600: webmaster@minux.zzn.com |

that Radeon 7000 card is NOT supported in OSX 10 or 10.1. It is supported in 10.5. Plug your monitor into the mobo video! |

Welcome to the well known "Black Screen of Death" !! Having run OSX for nearly 2 years I can tell you it has happened to me many times! It happens sometimes when an attempt to install OSX goes bad . It also happens if you unwisely try to use the 'startup Disk" control panel to install or chose OSX. In the biginning like you I thought my machine was dead but I'm happy to say there is a fix!!! The first thing to try is: Starting with the machine turned off push the power on button and at once hold down the (Apple+Option+P+R) keys. You will hear the startup sound and hold for about 3 startup bongs. If it works your screen will light up. It may take a couple of trys and it doesn't work from a restart only from turned off to start. This does a Pram reset which many people know about but starting from off clears it out while from a restart it only partly clears it out. The fix that always works for me and others as well. Turn off the machine remove the battery and the step most people miss is you need to unplug the machine! Wait 12 min + then push the cuda button put the battery back in plug in and cuda again then startup works everytime for me! This drove me nuts till I figured it out. Newer versions of XPF seem less likely to have this problem say 2.2 beta 7 is my current favorate. However i'm not sure XPF has anything to do with this or not.... later Will S |

I know it is not a hardware problem smart ass. I plugged my Ram, Radeon, XLR8 UPgrade, ZIF, ATA Card, USB, Firewire, and SCSI card into my Daystar and everything works fine. Thus, I can conclude that it is a software problem. Michael |

So you really believe software ruined your machine. Wow that is brilliant. Now seriously, have you checked to make sure it was not a hard drive gone bad, maybe RAM, maybe a PCI card, maybe the daughter card is loose? I mean have you checked to see if there might be a physical problem? |

Oh, and the monitor light turns green (indicating signal) for a second or two, then turns brown (indicating no signal). |

Chill out. Don't post such harsh comments until you ask for some assistence. First, hold down the cuda switch (little red button) on the motherboard for 10 seconds and then try to start up again. If that doesn't work, then unplug your 9600 and remove the batter for a few hours...then try again. -Ben |

Do you get any response from the machine at all when you press the power button? Green light, HD spinning up, fans turning on etc. I had similar problems with my 9600 during install of OSX because of my ATI Radeon card. You may need to zap p-ram and/or remove the MB battery to clear p-ram then try booting from a CD. See instructions on the XPOSTFACTO download page if you have not already. I'm just kind of grasping here since you didn't provide alot of info as to why/how XPOSTFACTO killed your 9600. Could you tell us exactly what happened? Scott |
